Prospect Info: 2022 31st Overall Pick | LW Isaac Howard

It may happen, but between the cap situation and Tampa not putting guys just into the roster out of college basically never, it's not surprising. Aside from Geekie, I can't recall too many prospects that had to spend no time in Syracuse first, and Geekie won his role through camp and preseason. Even some of Tampa's best had to play a little in Syracuse. Anyway, he probably gets signed if it ultimately comes down to an ultimatum, but given the team playing generally well and the cohesion in the top 9 atm, I can see why neither the coaching staff nor JBB wants to put a guy in at this point with basically no practice time or familiarity with the team, and with every game here on in having great importance for the division.

I don't think Vinik, BriseBois, or Cooper care about the division that much. Cap gymnastics will be done, Howard will get signed, get his game or games plural, and then we'll assess how it goes after.

They care plenty about the division imo. The Stanley Cup is the ultimate goal, and winning the division improves their chances based on how that changes their early round path. Not having to go through likely both of Toronto and Florida is more than enough incentive to push for the division and not change key parts of your lineup to placate a 20 year old imo.

I'm fine with Howard getting time on the 4th line though if he gets signed, but the top 9 is full and playing well. There's no real need to change that at this time.

If we even won a round or 2 I'll dance in the street. Next year I'm more bullish about a title so long as we stay healthy

JBB can't sign Ike right now because he's on a boat heading into the heart of darkness (Minneapolis) to bring in Connor "Colonel Kurtz" Kurth.

They have plenty to win this year. There's not a single team in the East that is any overwhelming favorite over Tampa. All of the stats and underlying metrics are good for Tampa this year as well. It's going to take great play from Vasy and most of the team, but unlike last year, where it would've taken some real magic to make a deep run, thus year's team has the right pieces and makeup to do so.

I think the East is generally just not that good this year. I just honestly cannot tell if we are sometimes struggling or playing with our food when we have so many games that look like a slog from 2001. Then all this week we are scoring touchdowns.

We could win the Cup or get blown out 4 games and none of it would surprise me

I think that there's a good chance that if Ike signs now, he becomes ineligible for the Hobey Baker Award.

It would probably be sort of strange to have him leave school for pro, have to go back for a night two weeks from now to potentially accept an award, and then resume his pro career.

As I recall, the award happens during the Frozen Four, so April 12-13.

He's got to make the Hobey Hat Trick first though (final three candidates), and that's getting announced April 3rd.

edit: Jimmy Snuggerud signed with St. Louis, so maybe not, but if any organization is going to have Kafkaesque eligibility rules, it's going to be the NCAA.

Leaving could still hurt his chances, as they aren't done voting yet.

edit2: Caufield and Gaudette signed NHL deals before they won the award, so it's not forbidden, but it may still influence the voters.

OK, then it must’ve been a f*** up on Puckpedia’s part because when I looked at it yesterday, it said that we had $80,369 available cap space. Which, was just a matter of sending Atkinson back to Syracuse and Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah here we are.

What performance bonuses would be at risk if he only got 2-3 games in?

I’m watching the Capitals roll out the red carpet for Leonard the last few days. They’re deep at forward and they managed to make room for him. I wonder how understanding Howard is while he watches his peers experience their first games.
