Prospect Info: 2022 31st Overall Pick | LW Isaac Howard - Part 2

I feel like, in a vacuum, his value can't be much higher than a 2nd

Isn't a 2nd what we get for doing absolutely nothing with him though? They have to make it at least a little worth our while with some sweetener. Not a lot, but maybe flip us some project or an equivalent guy that might sign with us.

I would like to think his World Juniors performance and Hobey Baker season helped raise his value since his draft. If Tony DeAngelo, who was nothing but warning signs covered in tarantulas, can get a 37th pick, Howard should at least be able to do similar. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Howard was pick 31, so if you can get a high 2nd rounder you're really not that far off from where you started.

Yes

I think if you can get a 2nd and a 4th you take it and move on

just hope you can get a young prospect for him that will be a better fit. situation should have never gotten to this point and now im glad we pass out 1st round picks like they are candy if this is how things go with them

He's also 22 though. I would put him at similar value to DAngelo, if not a little lower. D'Angelo as a raw talent was very impressive.

I'm not sure how valuable a Hobey Baker at his age is. I'm sure it moves the needle, but I don't think it's by a lot.

I don’t see too many teams outside the Sharks, Pens and Hawks either coveting him or Howard even being willing to sign with and I don't know if they are keen to give us a whole lot in return

Probably a bottom feeding team with open slots. Or a team in cap trouble who needs to take a gamble on someone cheap.

I feel like a bottom pairing defenseman could come back?

Ignorant take on my part but I am honestly burned out with the obsession with the bottom pairing. Pair Cernak with Hedman, Moser with McDonagh and have Raddysh anchor the bottom and be done with it.

We have so many changes we need to make with how we play that Howard for bottom d doesn't move the needle for me. We have FIVE GUYS who can interchange out of pairing 1 alone.

Nothing we get for Howard will move the needle, IMO. Maybe we get a 2nd that we flip at the deadline when it has more value?

Eh, it's about the individual. Geekie, who was the 11th overall pick, has had a great attitude since he came here and has earned everything so far.

I mean less about the trophy and more that he put up really good numbers this season. 26 goals, 52 points in 37 games. There were some questions after his first 2 college seasons if he could put up elite numbers, and he did this year.

But that's what I mean. College accomplishment seem very age dependant. If he'd done this at 19, I think we'd have a real prospect. At 22, he's more a "maybe"

Yeah. Touche. Fair enough.

In general I am "this close" to slapping the next person who brings up "fixing" our defense again like there's something wrong with it. McDonagh played like he was 26 again, Moser cut out all the mistakes we saw from Sergachev and the group combined for like the 3rd or 4th most points in the league. Just stop already

Now on the other hand FP's idea of flipping Howard to the Ducks for a young defender they're probably gonna have to get rid of anyway is a genuinely good idea. It is rarely ever a bad idea

I tend to think that if the AHL location has its own draws, Howard may be more willing to suck it up. Anaheim is affiliated with San Diego.

Syracuse, Utica, Springfield, Hartford, Iowa, etc. don't quite have the same draw as Coachella Valley (SEA), Austin (DAL), San Diego (ANA), Tucson (UTA), etc.

Howard may harrumph if his eventual team comes to him and says he needs to spend 1% of his career in the AHL, but there are some locations that would be more appealing than others.

Howard (apparently) thinks he should get the special treatment, but the AHL situation does play a factor in where guys sign.

You may be right. Coach Q is gonna tell Howard to piss off and play for the Gulls first.

I'm just waiting for San Diego to get their own team period. The Midway Rising development is happening. And while the Chargers are never coming back, there is a vacuum left behind for a winter sport. That club is going to be very well supported

Houston and Atlanta are as good as done once there is expansion money. San Diego isn't unlikely. Then maybe, MAYBE QC rounding it off to 36. It depends on if the NHL is waiting for Ishiba (idk how to spell his name. The guy who owns the Suns) to build a multi purpose arena in Phoenix. If that happens, the Preds will get punted to the Eastern Conference one day

QC is only getting a team when Atlanta moves again.

No matter who Howard signs with, they'll be able to assign him to the AHL (or the ECHL, for that matter). What are really his options once he's under contract? If Howard can play in the NHL his whole career, fine, but those careers are outliers. He can control, to an extent, what AHL team he'd prefer to go to.

I have a feeling that Howard is going to get asked about this in like five years and regret his attitude.
