I will personally venmo you (or donate to a charity of your choice) $100 if the Wings finish game 82 of the 2022-2023 season in 8th place of their division

Can I get in this action too? 100$ to a charity of your choice if Wings finish dead last in the division.

@DudeWhereIsMakar

Thanks for the list, fun idea. Agree with most of it and like some takes.

We're all making predictions here, not just me. I personally would rather do a poll on the standings and playoffs but once I did that the mods didn't appreciate it. I prefer it so fanbases don't get triggered, but

But sure, I'd love $100. That is, if my prediction comes to light.

I would LOVE to hear your reasoning on the Blues finishing 6th in the Central. I tried to envision that type of finish and I couldn't find any plausible scenario that would put them there. Are you predicting some type of implosion from Binnington and Greiss?

Now, the Blues are a good team. But long story short, the Central is intense. St. Louis is also ageing.

Now, the Blues are a good team. But long story short, the Central is intense. St. Louis is also ageing.
The Blues two oldest positional players have since moved on, Perron to Detroit and Bozak is UFA.

The Blues only have two positional players over 31 years old and a backup goalie at 36.

Bortuzzo is the Blues oldest skater at 33 but backup Griess is the oldest player on the entire roster at 36 years old.

St. Louis isn’t NY Islanders old, Penguins old, or even Capitals old, I’d place the Blues roster somewhere in the middle range as far as age group goes.

The Blues have their same defense intact from last season and should be getting younger at forward with the emergence of Kostin, Neighbours or Bolduc.

Pretty good list except Florida isn't going to fall that far and in the west how is Dallas ahead of the Avs for #1 in the Central?

Also the Blues 6th...screams WTF really.

I would also have LA ahead of my Canucks right now on paper but both fighting for 4th and the Big 3 are in Alberta and Vegas for the Pacific.

I also have no idea on Winnipeg as they often look good on paper and under perform and now not so good on paper but maybe they are better in terms of team play?

The Jets are probably the most complicated teams in the NHL to figure out. But you can't go wrong with predicting they make the playoffs or missing at this point. Coming from a Jets fan.

These are some bold standings predictions.

Columbus last #8 in the Metropolitan with the additions they’ve made at forward and defense and the depth Columbus roster has over most teams in the division is very bold, Columbus could be a team on the playoff line or above when the 22-23 is done.

Philly at #5 is also a bit silly considering they haven’t made any moves to further their chances of finishing that high in the Metropolitan division, Torts isn’t going to help the Flyers leave the Metropolitan basement.

Lastly Vegas in the #1 spot over teams like the Oilers or the Kings is also a risky prediction, giving the fact that their bottom 6 forwards are lacking in depth with Nick Roy as the only player capable of putting up some points with scoring from the bottom 6.
If injuries take place at forward Vegas could be in the same spot they were last season.

The Golden Knights goaltending is also questionable as to the long term health of goalies Lehner and Brossoit as injuries sidelined them down the stretch. If they are not healthy in 22-23 then Vegas playoff chances could be right on the line again.

Fair enough I can see the argument either way for them this upcoming year.

That they are...I really have no idea what to expect

Believe me I was tempted to put Oilers in first in the Pacific, but I think a full year of Eichel and Cassidy gives them the edge

Philly is my crazy prediction for this year, Tortorella has a history of making teams overachieve

He usually needs at least a year to get things really up and running, so I wouldn't expect Philly to bounce back immediately.

Will be tanking:

- Arizona
- Chicago

Will suck but they'll try hard and eek out some wins:

- Montreal
- Ottawa - this is my first hot take. Ottawa has a bad coach and it will depend on how long they stick with him while he is losing. DJ Smith gets away with being a bad coach because his team sucks. He won't have that excuse anymore next year.
- San Jose
- Anaheim

Will be competitive, possible bubble team

- Buffalo
- Winnipeg
- Philadelphia - Tortarella is not the type of coach that will see a roster like Philly sink to the bottom.
- Detroit
- Seattle - my second hot take.
- Minnesota, lost quite a bit in the off season.

Wouldn't surprise me if they sucked, wouldn't surprise me if they were good

- Calgary - Calgary has alternated between good and bad seasons for the better part of the last decade. Here are their point totals going back to the 2013-14 season from 13-14 to 21-22: 77, 97, 77, 94, 84, 107, 92 point pace at the time the season was suspended, on pace for an 80 point season, 111 points. The team is incapable of playing consistently at the same level for more than 1 year at a time.
- Edmonton - Same deal as Calgary. They have been a very inconsistent team since McDavid joined them. They either make the playoffs or are so bad, we wonder how a team with two MVPs candidates can be this bad.
- Vegas - Management issues aside, the team if healthy is too talented to miss the playoffs considering the division they're in but Vegas' goaltending is a question mark which can derail a team.
- New York Rangers - The Rangers have a singular point of failure, Shesterkin. They suck in front of him so he has to be a god. If he doesn't play like Shesterkin 2022 again, they're taking a step back. If he does, they could be the best team in the conference.
- Dallas - Robertson, Oettinger, Heiskanen take a step forward. Seguin gets back to ~70 points and they're back in the mix. If not, they will suck.
- Florida - Another hot take. I'm leaning towards them being good next year but last year they had career years from almost their entire forward core. That is not gonna happen this year.
- Boston - Only putting them here because they still have a lot of unawnswered questions regarding Krejci and Bergeron. If both come back, they'll be good. If neither come back they will be crap to middling.
- New Jersey could see Hughes taking a big step forward.
- Columbus, weak down the middle.
- Vancouver - Played like a 100 point team under Boudreau. But we've seen lots of teams make late season runs and not have any momentum carry over.

Will make the playoffs, and that's all you really need to have a chance.

- Nashville
- New York Islanders - New coach. Trotz made them play one of the most boring and low event styles of hockey in the league. Barzal should be unleashed next year and Sorokin should still be good. That defense core is still excellent, if unspectacular. If Kadri signs with them, I see them as a contender.
- St. Louis
- Washington
- Pittsburgh
- Los Angeles - Young up and coming team in a weak division with no clear best team.

Contenders

- Tampa Bay - Coming off three straight finals. Going back to 2015, they've made the finals 4 times and the ECF twice. Until someone knocks them early, they're contenders in my books.
- Colorado - No need to explain this one.
- Toronto - They were a 115 point team last year but the HFBoards Cinematic Universe doesn't recognize that.
- Carolina - Top to bottom, a team with no real weak spots in the lineup. I think they're the most well balanced team in the league. That said, they don't have the best of anything either. Kinda reminds me of the 2019 Blues team. Really good top to bottom with no real elite players except for Pietrangelo. In Carolina's case, I'd say Slavin is their Pietrangelo.

Damn I'm bored....

The Wild lost Fiala to LA trade and downgraded at backup goaltender with the trade of Talbot to Ottawa with no other moves made.

A full season of goaltending from 37 year old going to be 38 in November MA Fleury and young Gustavsson doesn’t seem like it would be the type to holdup for a playoff spot.
Wild goaltending was atrocious last season, which was why they had to trade for the 37yro in the first place at the deadline. It's not whether Gus is a better backup than Talbot, is whether he's a better backup than Khakonen was, and whether Flower is a better starter. Both possibly could be.

Yes, we lost Fiala, but Boldy should be better, and we also should have Rossi incoming helping improve the team at center.

The Wild should still be solidly in the playoffs barring injury.

The Wild need to stay healthy especially at forward if they want to have a chance at making the playoffs, as the depth at forward could be tested.

AHL depth: LW Petan, LW Fogarty, LW Baddock, C Cramarossa, C Shaw, RW Chaffee, RW Swaney LW Firstov plus other forwards not worth mentioning as they most likely won’t garner a recall because they’re not NHL ready forwards.
Not included in the AHL depth forward list is 2022 draft picks Ohgren, Yurov or 2020 2nd rounder Marat Khusnutdinov and 21 pick Bankier.
