Welp, playoff preview, or meaningless regular season game, either way, just get the two points and keep trying to take 1st place. GKG!
The oilers fans beef with Mikey grazing their stars while their stars make dirty plays all the time and they continuously act oblivious to it is hilarious.
It is pretty funny to think about if you knew or saw Mikey play for any real length of time. They are literally the only fanbase that gives him a second thought. Every single other fanbase says: "who?", "overrated", or "overpaid".
The world in which Mikey is the dirtiest player in the NHL while Nurse's headbutt gets glazed over or "Danault deserved it" is basically the dividing line I use to decide which Oilers fans are worth interacting with.
Pretty much. Everyone has some tint to their glasses when watching their own team, but there's something about denial for the Oilers that irritates me a little more given just how cheap some of them act regularly. At least own it or admit to it and say f*** you to the other team for doing whatever they are doing, but to turn a blind eye makes me feel like I am speaking with Canuck fans during the diving days and they are like: "What diving? That was a legitimate penalty. Whatever, everybody and every team dives."
Most annoying fanbase in the league. Never seen such crybabies and hypocritical fans.
To be fair, they have been on a rollercoaster the last few decades with the excitement and hope of drafting 1st overall like a dozen times to watch it all go to hell over and over due to some of the worst mismanagement in the league, leading to many years of mediocrity and stagnation. Oilers and Kings fans alike know the feeling of having and watching the best player in the world stagnate on a team that fails to be competitive or capable of winning.
It's definitely gotta suck on some level desperately clinging to the hope that they can at least do something with possibly the best player ever only to know deep down the dread of the likeliness of seeing it all go to waste and them going cupless and McDavid leaving your ass, or retiring with that black mark.
Though I think Ekholm was the first sane maneuver I've seen them make in a long while though. So maybe they learned that they don't have to win every game 8-7. If I were them, I would have traded Crysaitl for an elite defender and goaltender years ago.
