I think most agree it is the personnel. But you will continue beating around the bush and make exaggerations like saying people blame Hiller. Anything to not say Kopitar and Doughty.
lol, that’s funny cause I have never NOT tried to say that. Only thing I’ve ever said was blaming the PP woes on Sturm was utterly ridiculous.

So this year we are switching gears and blaming it entirely on Kopitar and Doughty, our two HOFers? Love it!

The problem with our powerplay's lack of creativity has always been Kopitar and Doughty. It's been this way for forever and people have been complaining about it for just as long. They are out there for 1:30-2 minutes of every powerplay f***ing it up for the last 15 years. Nothing will change until they're removed.

Just because certain posters are too busy fantasizing about sucking crumbs out of @Sol's happy patch doesn't make it any less true or new.

Yea they are the personnel that has been the common denominator through all the changes and still have not improved. You literally just blamed the personnel. Vilardi and Fiala are new so it aint them. That leaves you with Kempe Kopitar and Doughty.
No one is taking away how good Kopitar and Doughty have been for LA

Kopi holds on too long and doesn't shoot enough. Doughty's shot isn't lethal consistently. Both players are capable of PP minutes but the overall make up has never been great.

Still think they look for a perfect play more than just a shot mentality.

I'd like to see Fiala Vilardi Kempe Durzi/Doughty & Kaliyev.

It's the coaches fault -- whether that be Sturm, Hiller or TMac. Can we stop blaming players for things that the coach (getting paid $5M/year) is supposed to be doing and managing.

Kopi isn't forcing TMac to play him to death (like last year) or play him in OT after likely being dead tired. DD isn't forcing TMac to play him crazy minutes (even if he wants to do so). The coach is in charge. It's the coaches job to play guys the appropriate minutes, allocate them throughout the game, put guys out at the end of the game, PP minutes and how guys are utilized on the PP (positioning, puck possession, play setup etc.).

Absolutely. They sit there expecting the other team to just give them the goal because they keep passing the puck back and forth to each other. The regular shills will talk about their production and where they rank but no f***ing shit. When you're out there the whole damn time you're gonna get points. That doesn't mean more creative players wouldn't be more effective.

I would like to see Durzi out there on PP1 instead of Drew. Drew is a puckhog with low offensive IQ and skill. His passes are soft and his shots arent much better. I firmly believe he is one of the main reasons we are consistently terrible on the PP. Sooner or later you have tried everything and then you have to change out the triggerman.

Start playing PP2 in lieu of PP1...problem solved.

Watching Bolts/Caps yesterday- both PPs place either Stamkos or Ovi at the dot and simply let them blast one timers- seems like this could be done with Kaliyev and/or Kempe and at times its been tried- but not enough with any consistency to build regularity or continuity.

In preseason the PP was making a ton of short quick passes that was working well- once the season started we reverted back to last years PP strategy. To me thats the question- they gave some new looks in preseason that got us all excited like a breath of fresh air that halted once the season started. Would love to know- whose call was that? Pretty sure we all know the answer.

What i noticed the most against Det and Chi is PP1 cant enter the zone for shit.. Thats one thing they used to do well... I noticed they were giving to Fiala vs Kempe sometimes.. Kempe was good at it. But even when he gets it, its failing. My guess is theyve been scouted and need to adjust. But even when they enter, its garbage as usual. Both DD and Kopi are in a giant rut. Even 5 on 5 their style is settle eveything down no matter what the circumstance.. Watch DD in the D zone when he has the puck.. he almost never pushes play, the makes a couple of nice moves to elude the forecheck then you see forwards circle back. Kopi has no dynamism to his game whatsoever. He makes nice passes in traffic, but he rarely gets on the rush, get to the net and his shot is going into the logo more times than not. Having those two start OT is mind boggling - they play the most minutes on the entire team and they are 2 of the older players - and those are 2 of the starters in OT? Like I said before, this has to do with their legend and nothing else.

Took goal back from Ol’ Petey
Working for the Todd man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleepin’
Worryin’ ‘bout the ways Kopi’s overpaid

Big wheel keep on turnin’
Proud Quickie keep on burnin’
Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ through Alberta

Doughty is way better from the circles, but they keep sticking up at the blue line where he's not.

As easy as it is to blame the coaches. You gotta wonder how much pressure the players likely put on them for the icetime. I remember when Getzlaf told them to demote him and they did. How much of it is the players having a lot of say because they’re HOFers. And it’s also no secret that Kopitar and Doughty are bad on the PP.

I think the PP issues are Kopitar Doughty and Mclellan. The PP looked different early this season and it’s reverting
Very true! Was thinking two games ago that they are reverting to the same shitty pp

Don’t let Axl hear you!

Its not that those two don't produce, they just don't produce enough given the prime minutes.

Lots of stroking going on around here for a team that hasn't done a damn thing in 8 years, yet sure , lets keep doing the same thing with the same people that have been a huge part of that nothing because everything is fine...

It’s like going to a fancy restaurant and paying $300 for hamburger helper. Yeah it’s food and you don’t leave hungry but what the f*** are you doing paying $300 for Hamburger Helper?

So the Kings effectively go 3 for 3 on the power play last game and this entire GDT is about how the power play sucks. Okay.

Yeah good point. I ate well today so I guess world hunger is over.

We’re talking about a decade plus problem and you’re talking about last game? “Okay”
