Neither Mahura or Benoit can be sent down without waivers. So unless we waive one of them, or carry 8 dmen, we are looking at one spot open on the blueline, barring a trade.

Would anyone honestly be upset if we lost Mahura to waivers?

Unless I'm misremembering, he already had to clear waivers to be sent down this past year?

But no I'm not too concerned about having to waive him towards the end of camp. Nothing against him but there will be two dozen Mahuras on waivers during that time. Probably should say the same of Benoit but I'd prefer to keep him on the roster between the two.

Yes but I don't think he was ever placed on them. And because of his eligibilty, he was essentially handed a depth spot on the roster which was he perfect opportunity to cement himself as a NHL regular and he just didn't. Time to move onto other projects in the system

If we make a trade for a cap casualty D, I could see him going the other way, as NHL depth at a min cap hit.

Vatrano does seem like a good fit for Z, but I don't think Comtois is the best winger for them. I'd do:

Henrique-Zegras-Vatrano
McTavish-Strome-Terry
Comtois-Lundestrom-Silfverberg
Jones-Grant-Carrick

I don't want to talk about the defense.

Rico and Terry work together, I'd keep it that way. I'd put Strome on the wing, either Z or Lundy.

There was mention of Zell possibly being considered to make the team in the free agency thread. But I wonder if Mint might have a more realistic shot given his build over Zell's.

Rico worked with Zegras too while they were together (not that I mind whoever he plays with). Rico is a super versatile player.

i might try something like

Vatrano zegras strome
Henrique mctavish terry
Comtois Lundy silf
Jones carrick grant

I think we could see 1 of Henrique or comtois moved tho. Give comtois a shot in top 6 and if he shows he can be a useful player then go from there and lucic brought in.

Defense I’m Optimistic about

I think drysdale will be much improved, I think Vaaks will be healthier, we def need to add a little size tho

Still dumbfounded we can give strome 5 x 5 but couldn't give Lindholm the contract the bruins gave him.

It isn't THAT crazy to me. In 3 years, when our prime window opens, we would have 31-year-old Lindholm and 33-year-old Fowler. Having 1/3 of our blue line over 30, especially with Lindholm's injury history (and Cam's, TBH) could wind up feeling like an anchor. On the other hand, Strome is 1/12 of our forward group. Much easier to bury, if needed.

Now, you could debate the merits of Cam's deal, but that wasn't PV's decision.

And before anyone cites Colorado... We don't have a Makar.

No NHL team is running 3 under 22 year olds at center to start the season.

This is the lineup I would go with (maybe swap Henrique and McTavish), but I really don’t have confidence in that 3rd line.

This team already did last year. And it's a good thing Lundestrom turns 23 in November then I guess.
They didn't they had Getzlaf/Grant/Henrique (at times) We aren't going to go from that to just Grant IMO. We'll see I guess.

Opening night featured Zegras-Getzlaf-Lundestrom-Groulx down the middle, obviously different when you swap a second line center for a fourth but Lundestrom is on his third contract and Zegras isn't a rookie, if they feel McTavish is ready then there's no reason not to.

The Sens currently are also running three centers basically the exact same age as the Ducks' group.

So PIT needs to move our a Dman. I know we should be aiming for a RD, but what about trying to bring Pettersson back?
