just thought I'd add this here in the league thread since we don't have any Kalamazoo fans on here; Wings Stadium aka Wings Event Center is or will be upgraded to a new arena (similiar to what Indy has proposed to their current arena); it will also combine the pro hockey team as Wings Event Center has reached potentially its end life cycle as 2024 will be its 50th year; Western Michigan also will share the new facility

ECHL Playoff Picture Becoming Clearer As 2023 Season Winds Down

(Mar 28, 2023)
Mike Ashmore

As the ECHL regular season winds down to the final three weeks, it’s as good of a time as ever to examine the playoff races in each division and which games you’ll want to make sure to check out on FloHockey.

The Kelly Cup Playoffs get underway April 19, and while some teams already clinched their spots, here’s a division-by-division look at the race to get into the postseason, with some of them surely set to go all the way down to the wire.

All information is accurate as of the start of play on Wednesday. ...

Final weekend of play in the ECHL 2022-23 regular season. Three teams have clinched their division titles: Newfoundland in the North, Cincinnati in the Central, and Idaho in the Mountain Division (who are also the League's regular season champions). The 4th playoff position for the North & Mountain Divisions each remain in play, with Worcester & Utah currently warming those spots. So there are still some down-to-the-wire outcomes to follow before Sunday's games are in the books.

S/T to the Idaho Steelheads on an historic regular season ...
Idaho Steelheads Set ECHL Record For Wins, Points In Season

The Idaho Steelheads collected their 57th win Friday night, setting a new ECHL record for wins in a single season.

Apr 14, 2023 by Chris Peters

The Idaho Steelheads already clinched the ECHL regular-season title weeks ago, but now they’ve made league history as well. In a 4-1 win over the Rapid City Rush Friday night, the Steelheads set a new ECHL record for wins and points in a single season.

The Steelheads, celebrating 25 years as a pro hockey franchise this season, collected their 57th win of the year and now sit at 117 points in the standings. They broke the record previously held by the Louisiana IceGators, which won 56 games and had 116 points in 2001-02.

Idaho currently sits 14 points clear of the Cincinnati Cyclones, which is the next closest team in the standings to the Steelheads and the only other ECHL club with more than 100 points in the standings. The Steelheads were so far out in front that the team was able to be presented the Brabham Cup as regular-season champions on their home ice two weeks ago. ...

Five games are scheduled on this, the final day of the ECHL's 2022-23 season. Only the Worcester @ Adirondack matchup has playoff seeding implications ...

Adirondack wins OR Adirondack loses in overtime/shootout

Worcester can clinch a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Sunday if:

Worcester wins in regulation

Regular season over, here's how the teams stacked themselves ...

Final Standings-ECHL Central Division.png

Final Standings-ECHL Mountain Division.png

And a few notes about the also-rans, as the teams who clinched playoff spots will speak for themselves in the coming weeks ...

• The Railers had a shot at slipping in to the top 4 in the North Division, but Adirondack slammed the door on them.
• The Glads, OSB & Savannah never really had a chance in a typical haves & have-nots South Division. But I'm especially disappointed that the Ghost Pirates spun their wheels for so long in a mid-season slump during their inaugural season. Maybe 2023-24 will bring them more consistency.
• Gotta wonder how many miserable seasons the Heartlanders will be able to withstand in the Central Division before DS&E gives up on them. When you can't outdraw the Nailers, you are in SERIOUS trouble.
• As a former CHL fan, looking at how the Mountain Division sorted out ... the Oilers just plain suck!
