But that's the thing, D-men need more PP minutes too. Brannstrom is not even in the guys you just named. Kleven could get minutes when he comes up as well. Greig should definitely get minutes

And Giroux, Sanderson and Chychrun could be on any PP1. Plus several guys (Sanderson and Chabot) who could play the whole 2 minutes

We need to also find a good replacement for DeBrincat (without being a big name, so cheaper) but that guy might need pp minutes too

It might be an embarassment of riches and a good problem to have but also why it might be hard for guys like Sokolov and Thomspon to make their marks with this team

=======================================

But there will be an opportunity for guys like Crookshank and Sokolov. So far we only have 9 forwards guaranteed to be in the lineup :

Stutzle, Norris, Tkachuk, Batherson, Giroux, Pinto, Greig, Joseph, Kastelic

Need 2 quality middle-six forwards and a good bottom-6 forward. Alex Formenton, Nick Paul and Connor Brown would be incredibly ideal. Need to get back at least one forward of that ilk in the DeBrincat trade. Sign another one in UFA or benefit of the cap crunch to get player on the cheap? (like Bjorkstrand last summer). Could also sign an UFA. One of my targets would be Cogliano.

These are good points. I’m not opposed to giving Brannstrom and Greig a shot, I’m just saying the first grouping I’d try would be the one I mentioned.

I love the mix on that second unit with Pinto being effective in the bumper/high tip position, Sokolov going to the net front and occasionally sneaking away for a shot, Chychrun launching bombs, Sanderson using his vision and mobility to open lanes and sneak in for back door plays, all of it facilitated by Giroux’s elite playmaking. Very solid potential second unit.

If we add a good PP forward to replace DeBrincat then sure, let’s give him a shot, but I could also see us adding defensive or physical forwards who contribute in other ways but aren’t as skilled on the PP. Like a Haula type for instance. Good contributor but not a PP specialist. Depends on the additions this summer, I’m just saying that based on our current roster I wouldn’t write off Sokolov as a PP option.

Agree with all of this other than that I think Jarventie still has higher upside. His shot arsenal and one timer are pretty nasty.

In the old hockeys future number and lettre grade he’d have had a higher number with lower letter.
I agree on Jarventie, there are a few guys in the org with the potential to improve our team & specifically our bottom six & bottom two defensively. However, they are all prospects & young & who knows when they become good NHLers we can depend on everyday. Jarventie, Sokolov, Ostapchuk, Greig, Kleven, Boucher, Petersson & maybe JBD, Nordberg & Donovan all have the potential to improve our team, but how long it takes or whether they pan out is another question.

With the departures, unless Dorion goes batshit nuts in FA/trade acquisitions, I see a spot for Sokolov on the team. In very limited and sporadic ice time, he looked good enough to take spots away from Watson, Gauthier, Gambrell (tenacious yet softish), and CTC Valet Parker Kelly. Sokolov doesn't have the speed, but I like how he battles along the boards and in front of the net. You can see glimpses of his offence following him to the NHL, which is encouraging.

Was just looking over Ottawa's capfriendly page and it kinda looks like the Sens need to sign almost an entire AHL team this summer? If you assume Greig, Sokolov and JBD make the big club and that Thomson is either traded/claimed on waivers then this is all they've got...

Reinhart - Jarventie - Boucher
Crookshank - Ostapchuk
Smejkal

Kleven - Matinpalo
Heatherington - Guenette

Sogaard
Merilainen
Mandolese

So they need something like 7 forwards and 3 defense just to fill out a roster.

They signed Petersson to an ELC not sure he is coming over though. They could re-sign some of their AHL players to minor league deals & there are always plenty of vet guys in the AHL that move from team to team. Should be interesting to see what happens here.

No he won't be coming over. For sure they have work to do. I believe Ryan Bowness is the GM and will be busy. Hoping they put a solid team as it's been a bit of a disaster recently.

Hoping they can re-sign Cole cassels. He was really good for them last year and a quality vet to have around the young guys.

Is this Ryan bowness’ work? Who is signing ahl players?
If I were to guess, it also wouldn’t surprise me if Andlauer told management that he’d have no problem with money being spent to have a successful farm team. Although it’s not his team yet and he can’t give directions, I’m sure the input helps staff with planning though.

In Hamilton he certainly wasn’t afraid to spend because he’s big on development and winning.

Good point. Never even thought how the sale would effect Belleville. Guy has spent time and capital in the league already. Would be nice to see some success over there finally.
