2022-2023 Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award

No offense to Vesey but it’s an issue that he is the choice.
How come?
Hard-working 3rd/4th liners seem to win it at least semi regularly, and I don't think anyone really questions the effort that Vesey has put in to re-shaping his game to make sure he sticks at the NHL level

I actually voted for JV26 but I'm surprised so many agree with it...

Still angry that Prucha never won it though. Fast too for that matter....

I propose we create an inaugural “HF Boards Feck All Effort Award”

Was gonna start a poll but it would have just been a cut/paste of most of the bloody roster….

(edit - will include GG)

Nobody thinking Trocheck? That guy busts his butt daily too! I think Vesey, Trouba, Lindgren, Trocheck… all in the running.

None of our “stars” would even be close.

As much as I think Vesey deserves it, will probably go to one of Trouba, Kreider, or Zibeanejad. Just because of the popularity factor.

Vesey for this year.

Lindgren might end up being like Lundqvist and the Vezina for this award. He's a good choice every year, but ends up being everyone's second or third choice, so he rarely wins it. I hope he does get one or two of these awards.

Trouba would be my choice

Vesey would be my runner up

I think Trouba will win it for the helmet toss alone. I think the award is more of a leader award. Someone who steps up and goes on and above their duty, not just on the ice, imo.

If he wins it won’t be upset at all. I just think Vesey goes under the radar to the casual fan.

I feel like it’s been pretty accurately awarded the past few years. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vesey gets it.

Yeah it’s great that Vesey has done well but obvious answer is you want your better players to have stood out enough to deserve the award.

To each their own, but short of a few Hank years, or a crazy outliers like Kreider last season, I'd have this kind of award going to the 'role-players' who go above their station, more often than not.
