I would love management to hire Craig Ramsay to coach the Rocket, give him a big contract and he might do it. He was key in Slafkovsky and Mesar's progression, he was their national coach. I figure the trust is there, would be perfect if they spent the year in the AHL.
Craig Ramsay is 71 years old though, but I just watched a 2022 february interview and I like his take. He praised Slafkovsky for 5 minutes and he doesn't want to predict how good Slafkovsky will be. Slafkovsky is only 18 years old and the sky is the limit for him.

Re-hire in Ramsay's case, if you remember FF you old timer.

I think that the reason that the discussion of Slafkovsky projections is so sterile I'd that few of us have actually seen him play a significant amount of games, so many people are simply making stuff up and others are overanalyzing the fabrications.

It's ok to wait until a few games into the season, be it AHL or NHL.

I for one am looking forward to watching more games this year. The Bergevin administration has given me a distaste for the team, but now I'm excited.

They’re gonna be bad most nights but it’s gonna be fun to watch the younger players Slafkovsky, Caufield, Suzuki, Dach, Guhle, Harris

it’s very hard to predict potential production for a player. I’m just as unable to tell you where I see for example Beniers‘ production as Slafkovsky’s. For Slafkovsky, I can make limited judgments like that he’ll produce more than Poolparty, because his shot is better, his passes are sharper and the speed of the NHL game seems to confuse and overwhelm Puljujarvi.

His size, speed and skill are awfully impressive.
Hopefully he can read the NHL speed which is always the one thing you won't know until he plays at that level.

I think he will be a great player in this league.

Svech is nowhere near his prime and you can bet Canes supports expect him to break PPG some time.

I only see this lowering of standards when it comes to Slafkovsky. A 35-35 player is not the saviour. The 1OA if not a generational player (this wasn’t the draft for that) should at least be a freakin PPG player in a league with dozens of PPG players.
I am not sure who you are arguing against. Canadiens drafted who they thought was the best player in the draft, its no one’s fault if this draft didn’t have a future hall of famer as 1st overall

Unlike the 2018 draft which included several genitational « talents » who sadly (and allegedly) plied their wares as members of Team Canada.

Too soon? :sarcasm:

Is expecting a 80pt player in an era of high scoring the same as expecting a future hall of famer?

The point is you can expect the team to draft the BPA and you can only compare that player with the rest of his draft class (in a few years).

If none of them become PPG that sucks (for us to have 1st OA that year) but that’s not on the player.

Completely agree. HuGo and Marty all on the same page with the type of team they want. Fast, high octane offence with lots of scoring. Considering the state of the D and goalie situation, I expect a lot of 5-4 games where they're flyinh up the ice, gaining confidence and growing as a core together. Perfect segue to building D and no. goalie in the future when they become a contending team.

Love it and looking forward to enjoying watching Hab games again! Even if they don't win many.

never seen that goal before

He’s a Bobby Smith kind of 1OA not a McDavid 1OA. Slafkovsky is in the Smith mold: big, tall, strong, skilled, good skater, even though Smith was a Center. We needed a player like that to win the Cup in 1986.

I was using an hyperbole but my point is if Slaf is the best player in the draft as a 70 point player than there is nothing to be disappointed about

If he ends up being the best player of the draft then sure but a 70pt peak for the best player of the draft is rly shockingly low given the current high scoring NHL

never understood why reflex and/or hand eye coordination wasnt at the combine.

Well, I’m done debating Slafkovsky and whether or not we made the right pick. Camp isn’t far away and I’m excited to see him in the CH. I’m intrigued to see what we got and I’m fully on board the Slafkovsky wagon now. He’s a hab now and it’s time to shift gears.

I hope this kid proves me wrong and makes me eat ample amounts of crow. Let’s go Slaf.

...as another who was on the Wright Train before the draft, I agree wholeheartedly...we got him, so let's just see what he can do...hopefully, the Rantanen-lite comparisons aren't that far off...and if Marian Hossa is right, we might just have a Jagr-lite after all...

I remember when I was on the Wright bandwagon...

Then I watched him play.

re-watching the draft i loved that moment when Slaf and Mesar saw Nemec and all 3 went for the big group hug and it got me thinking how long before they convince Simon to jump ship to Montreal
Personality wise I think Nemec definitely would prefer a smaller market team compared to the mecca but playing with friends would perhaps change it.

Tell you what though, If you guys Kidnap Quinn Hughes for the Devils they will send you Nemec posthaste! :naughty:
