(There was also blatant high-sticking just prior to the goal that made it 1-4 for the US, while the game was still within reach for Slovakia.)

(And this was following the Boyle incident where he should have received game misconduct and Slovakia should have been on 5 minutes of non-perishable power-play. It could well have been 2-3 or 3-3 instead of 1-4, if the referees hadn't been blind in this game.)

The beer-league level referees (2 from Germany, 2 from Switzerland) should be punished and should never see the ice again at this tournament or indeed any future IIHF top event.

Well, we are obviously looking at the game from opposite sides. I thought the US got up 3-0 and started managing the game with Saturday in mind. I think you guys would have had a tough time putting four by Cal no matter how the rest of the game played out. Good luck at the Olympic qualifying in August, I think the way you guys played in this tourney bodes well for that.

You should re-read what Ramsay is saying. That was his point: Boyle wouldn't dare to do that totally unprovoked sort of thing in the NHL. It was disgusting, Boyle should be suspended for the rest of the tournament, and the US should look for another captain. Third time is the charm, eh?

That's in the eye of the beholder. To me, it looks like Boyle was trying to hold the Slovak player back (preventing him from getting involved in the play after the face-off that the Slovak player, Roman, had won against Boyle).

So, Boyle puts his hockey stick in Roman's crotch. Of course, Roman is going to reach for the stick to put it away from his crotch. Would you do anything else? From the video, I see Roman trying to put Boyle's stick away from his crotch, rather than holding it.

Regardless, Boyle follows all that up with outright spearing of Roman, which, far from being called "encouragement", is punished with a game misconduct and a 5-minute power-play according to IIHF rules.

And at this early point in the game, the result was still hanging in the balance, so this wasn't just a side episode.

Well...the boys showed up and did what they had to do. Pretty dominating win all around.

Injuries are worrisome especially for Roy who is our top damn overall IMO. Need him healthy Saturday. Beniers looked pretty rough doubt he plays but keeping hope alive.

Rather play Germany than Canada since Canada is always that insane fight for us, but either way it will be a hard fought and exciting game to get to the Gold.

Who the hell would have thunk it that this team has a chance to play for Gold??? LOL...not many for sure.

Canadian fans feel the same way after starting 0-3 and relying on other teams to even make the qf. The semi final should be a good one.

All while pretending the refs didn't miss giving Cehlarik a major for boarding Hellickson from behind or that the hooking call on Jones in the 2nd wasn't complete hogwash.

Yeah, IIHF rules suck and German & Swiss referees in this game definitely sucked. Doesn't absolve Boyle from what he did.

The boarding shot on Hellickson was typical gutless Slovak hockey...that should have been 5 minute major, game misconduct & permanent IIHF ban....am I doing this right????

Lets hope Slovakia puts up a better fight next time the two nations meet again in a “Mens” tournament. The Slovakian player was trying to draw a call and should have been called for diving.
