U18: 2021 U18 Czech

Germans have 8 shots on net after 2 periods. They did have 3 really good chances though so I'm not sure I'm that thrilled with the Czech D either. Svozil is consistenly whiffing on 1 timers.. I was hoping to see Svozil and Jiricek dominate this one. Also, was hoping to notice Hamara.

Still, this is our most important game and I'll take a 2-0 lead and 8 shots against after 2 periods. I'm a big fan of what Germany is doing.. this is not representative of who they are IMO.

I like our D, it's not out of this world in terms of skating but they seem to play smart game intercepting the german attacks with some good stick work and have nice ability to move the puck quickly ahead to our forwards. I don't remember seeing so many smart, "modern" defensemen on one Czech team in any category. The real test will come against the top 5 though.

Haven’t seen anything yet. Pretty surprising to hear that our D is average and Hamara isn’t standing out. We’ll see what happens in the bigger games
 
Not exactly a classic... if I were Suchanek I'd be mad. He didn't get many shots but he was key with some big saves at the right times and then the Czechs took so many penalties in the 3rd and ruined his shutout. I've never seen a guy get 2 penalties on one play before.. that was neat. Took down the German TWICE on a breakaway resulting in a penalty shot and a penalty after the penalty shot.lol

Jiricek, Suchanek and Brabenec stood out to me. Nothing about our lack of discipline or finishing made me think the next 3 games can end in a win.

Having said that.. we won the game and I was VERY worried about this one. This should get us a real nice quarterfinal asskicking on prime time TSN!haha

I couldn't tell you a single thing Hamara did.. it's on hockeytv.. you have to buy a monthly subscritpion for $25. Bit of a ripoff but they do have 2 commentators, show a replay of the goals and have 2 camera angles (1 good one and 1 awful one).

Nothing really stood out to me but our lack of discipline and finish. It was not pretty and 40 shots sounds impressive but it didn't look like that dominant a performance. Maybe others disagree and I'm being a debbie downer but I found it to be a disapointing all around performance. The German squad is clearly affected by missing key players and limited game action this season.

All three 04-borns looked good.

It looked like the Czechs are finally finding their game in the 3rd period, until that penalty shot happened, since then it was sloppy grind again.

I'm very happy with game D. It was the dominant game. Too bad the mistake in the third period, after which there was a penalty shootout, was ultimately a useless drama. The attack played as expected very average. We'll see what next, the Germans, as we know, had big problems.

Their goalie played very well but no one else really stood out to me.

I did read Zaruba say Hamara had 6 shots on net and he did get an assist on the gorgeous Rysavy goal... so maybe I'm not giving him enough credit!

So Finland, Russia and America next... that is going to be tough. 3 straight losses would be what to expect. I will cheer to the end and am curious how we do against Finns tonight.
