I'll go out on a limb and say Rod isn't going anywhere else to coach in the NHL. If Dundon won't pay him he'll just not coach anywhere. He's far too rooted in Raleigh even if he did sell his mansion. It was tougher than most people know to get him to coach the Canes in the first place. It's Canes or nothing for him, I think.

Agree with this. I know he is heavily involved with the youth development teams and programs as well .

I'm just wondering why I pay for the Athletic content sometimes.

I know I'm a fan of a rival team, but I need to chime in here:

Down Goes Brown. That's the only reason to pay for Athletic content.

During recent viewings while scouting last week, Murray said Fleury “just looks hesitant in everything.” But Murray has scouted the Carlyle, Saskatchewan, native since he was 16 and long has been an admirer, acknowledging that there had been prior discussions with Carolina GM Don Waddell that didn’t come to fruition.

I think he needs to play,” Murray said. “I think he needs to play a bunch. It could take a little time. When he was in the bubble last year, he played pretty well for them. He just needs to get his legs underneath him and get going. I think this is a future move. This is adding to our defensive group.
“It’s a 24-year-old defenseman. Most defensemen don’t reach their peak until they’re 28, 29. There’s a good future for this young man.”

Good for him. He would be fortunate to land somewhere where they both believe in him and have opportunity for him. Sounds like a win for Hayden.

He deserves a chance. Coming up he played best in spots where he was left to develop over time. Here he was one bad play/game away from being out of the rotation and I think that always affected his confidence.
