Vrana + 1st for Mantha seems fair.

The 2nd is for them taking Panik.

Panik is a good bottom six player though. Better than Raffl for sure. I wouldn’t have dealt Vrana and a 1st for Mantha. They’re a huge team now, but I think they lost a bunch of team speed.

I love what they gave up but I don't like what they added.

Washington (Mantha/Raffl), New York Islanders (Palmieri/Zajac), and Boston (Hall) all loaded up. We got Carter.

We need to get healthy ASAP. Thankful the schedule is good down the stretch for us.

There wasn't much way we were going to win any sort of deadline Arms Race, and considering how it usually seems to go for us, it likely wouldn't have been the best idea to do so, anyway.

I thought the Vrana deal was dumb but apparently he has zero points in his last 15 playoff games, and 3 goals in 38 playoff games overall. Maybe the Caps brass are onto something and he is mostly good for feasting on bad teams in the regular season.

Yeah, I don't disagree. That was a butt load to give up for Mantha and as much as I really like this, I would have been pissed if we gave up that much. So Mantha was probably out of the question.

Palmieri and Zajac, that was a lot to give up as well. Would have been nice to get that package though but...again, lots of assets out.

Hall for a 2nd + Bjork level player seemed like a damn good deal...but I'm not convinced that Hall is a winner. I don't know if he's Kessel 2.0 or Brassard, ya know?

Bunch of other deals...meh, whatever. I don't have a "the one that got away dangit!" feeling.

No points and a -8 in the last 15 playoff games are eyecatching stats for sure.

I dunno if I buy that this was a good deal, and this season regular season it's flat out made them worse, but I can see Mantha being a playoff upgrade.

Im happy with the pens moves. They didn't blow it all and have a year to evaluate things. Next year is the year to go for it. Maybe you get a young guy or two to make an impact (POJ, Poulin, Legare, Zohorna, Roberts) You could also move Petts or Zucker before the draft and try to make a UFA splash.

The caps got better but the questions is how much and was it worth it. Like the pens they have about a year or two left to really compete and go for it.

The only low-key WTF trade was Haydn Fleury for 2022 6th round pick and Jani Hakanpaa.

Hakanpaa is nothing player. 2010 draftee, only started playing for the Ducks this year in any real capacity. Him and a 6th for Fleury floors me...but maybe I over-rated Fleury?

In my opinion, until proven otherwise Hall is.... Not good anymore.

Clearly I can pretty easily be wrong but I don't consider that a huge get. Shrug

Fleury has apparently been the odd man out in Carolina and hasn't had a real crack so who knows. Hakanpaa is even more magic beans. Could go either way.

He's not Hart calibre anymore, but he can't possibly shoot at 2% forever. He's definitely worth at least what he was traded for, even for just a few months. I can't imagine how crushing it would be playing in Buffalo right now.

Here's my problem...just like Mantha, just like Carter, just like damn near everyone traded...I see it going both ways and I wouldn't be shocked at either.

"Damn, Hall came in and was a stinker! He did nothing for them! Dude never shows up when it counts!" No issues with believing that.

"Damn, Pasta and Hallsy are like long lost twins! They gelled quickly and destroyed the league! Former Hart and former Rocket winner teaming up!? Hells yeah! They blew through the league. Great move Boston!" No issues believing that either.

I agree with you entirely, Anaheim got an absolute steal with getting Fleury for that price. I would have loved for the Penguins to have acquired him if that's all it would take.

He would have been an amazing D partner for Marino IMO. He's going to be another Dumoulin caliber D really soon.

Carter solidifies our top 9.

I think Mantha will develop in Washington but they paid more than we did for the younger Kapanen and I think I'd rather have Kap in both the short and long term.
