My problem with ignore function is that knowing that someone out there is so tragically and consistently wrong, I have a visceral need to try to help them see the light.

Hey guys? Let's maybe just be excited for everyone, and hope that everyone puts up a career year. No one will remember if you were dumpstering a guy before the season and turned out to be right. So let's cut the negativity and get excited for a team that, on paper, actually looks pretty good if things go right. :)

Hypothetically, how would the forum look if everyone was universally positive?

[User1]: Wohoo this is going to be the greatest year ever!
[User2]: Thumbs up!!! Oh yea, here we come for our 2nd cup!!!
[User3]: 2nd Cup? Nah man. We fittin to win 3 this year alone. And 3 more every year. Eternal dynasty here we come.
[User4]: Well, damn, can't get anymore upbeat than that! Yea Eternal Dynasty......
[User5 to infinity]: Yay Eternal dynasty!!!!

Sounds soooo fun. No discussion of hockey or team's actual strengths and weaknesses. Just people straight trippin on kool aid 24/7. That's more cult than discussion forum.

Reading Brian’s run-down of the forward group, I found myself wondering how Tarasenko will be deployed now that he’s on the trade block by request.

Last year, I often felt that he was being fed PP and top 6 line minutes and offensive zone time that he hadn’t strictly earned. He was dragging his line down and costing possession. I understand the point, trying to work him back into shape where the investment pays off. But if he’s a semi-malcontent, or you expect him to be traded, how much deference does he get in similar situations? I know fans think players are ‘show-cased’ and given big minutes to polish them for trade at times. I think that’s often over-stated.

But will Vlad get minutes and PP roles that match his actual performance THIS season? I wonder if we’ll see a difference in Berube’s deployment for him.

No, it’s the pearl-clutching that’s stupid. In what way has he hurt the Blues the last 2 years?

Your question is something we obviously have no knowledge about for or against but I don't think it's unreasonable to criticize an expanded role for a guy who completely botched his last franchise.

I don’t mind Hitch coming in. He could be a savvy advisor.

Pete probably has some good attributes, I am just not familiar with them. As long as he stays away from conflict management, roster construction and drafting then, what’s the harm?

Chiarelli isn't inherently bad just because he was bad as a GM in recent years. He still had some really good moves in Boston and earlier in his career, so I'm sure he brings value into our group. Doug is still #1 and as long as Doug is #1, we are in good hands.

Hitch as a coaching advisor is a good role for us too. Never hurts to have an extra voice like that. Maybe he'll be there to help players out like Larry Robinson did with Parayko, maybe he'll be there to help develop our young assistants even more.

Blues 100% vaccinated. Given that the NHL anticipates only 10-15 players not being vaccinated, this isn't that surprising. Good for them.

Just heard Tyler Bertuzzi (F, DET) is among the unvaccinated players. Meaning he can't play in Canada without doing a 2 week quarantine. Supposedly he's just going to stay home and forfeit the wages associated with the games played North of the border.

I wonder who else will make that same decision and when it will be reported?

My thing regarding Chiarelli and Hitch is that, do we really need the role that Hitch is coming in as? We've got some pretty seasoned coaching in Berube, Montgomery, Van Ryn who was considered for some openings, Ott, and Sean Farrell and David Alexander have been around the block a few times. Maybe Hitch's role is something related to developing the coaches in Springfield?

Chiarelli I'm kind of neutral on because I think he's had his share of questionable or downright stupid GM moves, but what GM hasn't?

Ignored so far in this conversation is Chiarelli's own network of hockey contacts. I'm sure as a veteran GM in the league, he has quite a wide assortment of assets and friendships. That kind of savvy can help contribute to the whole. I saw the same kind of reactions when he was hired, but its just silly. He's not calling the shots, and he hasn't done anything that can be pointed to as a negative.

Looks like he is replacing Taylor who is taking on a reduced role. Having another experienced guy in front office helps Army I’m sure. I wouldn’t want chiarelli to replace him, but who else does Army have to turn to for perspective who understands what he is going through?

Yeah we don’t need Hitchcock at all. But it’s probably Armstrong just helping out his friend, who apparently cannot survive without being around hockey.

I would pay to see Hitch behind bench and get fire up our players again.

Armstrong is quoted in the Post Dispatch saying Hitch is there for Berube to have someone to discuss their profession with since he himself doesn’t have that specific experience he wanted to give him someone that did.

in Chiarelli’s defense no one has turned Edmonton around

also, based on his name, he has Italian heritage which is maybe the most important thing in evaluating anybody
