If the Kings draft McTavish to play center 2 other centers have to go somewhere via trade. They have too many centers to even see what they have at the nhl level.

Kopitar
Vilardi
Byfield
Turcotte
Kupari
JAD
Thomas
McTavish

So basically they’d have to trade one or two of Vilardi, Turcotte and Kupari since those are the ones of real value and they won’t trad Byfield.

Unless they’re overloading center prospects to propose to Buffalo for Eichel.
Doc no they don’t. Guys can shift to wing or like we’ve seen since the Kings have actually had prospects is that not all of these guys will make it. I still remember the days of old when we were penciling in guys like Rosa and Lehoux and Peter f***ing Kanko into lineups in the top 6.

Always take BPA not for need.
I think you do bpa when you’re at the beginning and middle of a rebuild. We’re at the point where our prospect pool is so stacked, we can afford to reach(a little), even though neither Hughes or Wallstedt would be a reach…

It's very possible that a bunch of these guys wind up not being Centers at all, specifically Vilardi or Turcotte, Thomas & Kupari. Centers have the ability to move to the wing, not so easily done the other way.
Definitely the exception, and not the rule.

That would be a good day. But I have a feeling McTavish won't drop to us. If he does, take him and run and don't even think twice about the 2 goalies or our lackluster D prospects.

This.
I'd have to agree just really hoping the ducks don't take him, Mctavish and Zegras as 1-2 punch would not be fun to face for the next decade.

Time for the annual reminder that outside of the first pick, there is no such thing as Best Player Available. Its a platitude, saying something that doesn't mean anything.

The actual selections are made under Best Fit Available for What We are Trying to Accomplish.

Zegras and Drysdale are fantastic players to build around, but it doesn't scream hard to play against in the sense that they will roll over you with scoring and physically snuff you out in the offensive zone. Adding McTavish would give them that snarl they are missing, and I'm hoping they opt for anyone else.

Totally agree. Not going BPA is how you end up with Colton Tuebert at 13th overall.

From my memory, Teubert was ranked in that general area. After Carolina took Zac Boychuk at #14, I remember Bob McKenzie saying that the first 14 on his ranking/survey were now off the board. Teubert didn't pan out, but him going at #13 wasn't surprising compared to say Dylan McIlrath going before Cam Fowler (and Brandon Gormley).

Here's a scouting report by E.J McGuire on Teubert

I believe there was a quote from Lombardi afterwards where he discussed why he chose Tuebert. He mentioned that he had selected Hickey the year before and Doughty this year, so he was looking for a tough defenseman, rather than another puck mover. I was more referencing that, but you are right he was ranked around there.

Yeah. Teubert was ranked just outside the top-10. I'm assuming the big draw was because Phaneuf, who was drafted in 2003, exploded offensively in the WHL a year or two after being drafted. Teubert just seemed to fit the profile as well. But the consensus was a mid-first.

Yup. One of my best friends and myself bumped into Lombardi outside of (then) TSC during development camp. As an aside, Lombardi was always gracious with his time to fans, and gave me and a few others t-shirts, just because we were hanging out.

Anyway, my buddy had straight up asked "do you think there's an issue of toughness with our team?" Lombardi had the fastest sigh/raspberry in response and said "that's why we drafted Colten Teubert."

Lombardi was hilariously candid years later when they were in on Kovalchuk. He was like "All right, time to see what this Russian wants."

You could tell he was exasperated and not wanting to go through with it.

I know they won’t all make it and some can shift to wings but it’s more asset management. Eventually they’ll be a chance of either A) they aren’t that good and you can’t get anything got them or B) you have to decide who to lose through waivers.

Sell high when you have 6 prospects that are centers and try to help the defense.

Myself, still hoping for Clarke. The right side of:
Doughty
Roy
Walker
Clarke
Faber
Grans
Spence

Is absurd. One could be traded away to address LD or wing.

Though if Eklund falls, I can't imagine passing on him.
