I personally think this draft is pretty underrated with a lot of people saying it is weak. There should be really strong quality throughout the first round. 2020 felt it like ran out of steam before the end of the top 10.

I agree with this. As I have been watching a couple of the prospects in 2021. I think.if you take out the top 2 in (Byfield and Lafrenière) 2020. I think the 2021 draft's top end is pretty comparable to 2020 . I do think that 25-40 had more depth in favor of 2020. But 2021 is not 2012 imo in terms of it's strength.

One can only hope a "Do Not Draft" lists exists for 2021.
Both are listed as forwards. Last season in over 50 games each, they each had under 10 points.
One was draft eligible in 2020.
Based solely on stats from last season, doubtful either of them was going to be drafted this season.

To do this after the Mitchell Miller story from late last year just shows that they didn't think this was wrong.

The point is, their stats shouldn't determine whether or not they'd be on a DND list. For example, I'd want McDavid on my team's DND list if he was blatantly racist.

***I'm not accusing McDavid of being racist. Just trying to illustrate a point.***

My point was that their stats already made them unlikely to be drafted. This would put an end to any slim chance either kid had.

I get that.

My point was that their stats should be irrelevant. A McDavid-calibre player should be on every team's DND list if he's blatantly racist, no matter how awesome his stats happen to be.

The easy path is easy. I'd be more impressed if teams made the difficult but correct decision to bypass high quality prospects rather than pat themselves on the back for passing on ECHL wannabees.

Michigan out of the NCAA Tournament due to Covid.

This means the team won't get to see Berniers, Power, and Johnson again before the draft.

Wow! The COVID news just keeps getting worse for pro hockey scouts. The draft is going ahead on July 23rd, come hell or high water, and I have no idea what the teams are going to base their selections on.

I know one thing....there's some NHL team out there with a good book on all the eligible players, and will hit a home run in this draft. Likewise there are teams that will look back on this draft in a couple of years and realize they didn't draft anyone. It's a total crapshoot.

Good year to just have a lot of draft picks then....Cc Jim Benning.

I have berniers 1 and eklund 2 so far, very impressive shl season for him, actually incredible for a draft prospect. Both prospects have alot of skill, and a motor and work ethic to back it up. I just hope we take best player, dont take a defenseman just because our D is garbage, there is some free agent D we could go after, and its not like our forward depth is stacked. And i dont want us getting tunnel vision drafting luke hughes just because they are brothers like the sedins. If we truly think he is the best player in that spot then fine, but this market has some fans that are obsessed with irrelevant fantasy scenarios.

Looking at the standings with our games in hand we could finish as low as 6th.

Vancouver with the #9 draft pick if season finished now. It could be anywhere from #5-17 in a couple of weeks.

We need a quality goaltender since we know the timeline of Demko’s contract. Nobody else in the pipeline looks like a potential starter. #3 pick should be goalie.

First two picks should be F/RD. If Clarke isn’t there, take a RD in the 2nd round. I think the forwards are underrated this year, some quality Canadians in the QMJ/WHL.

NTDP is deep again, not much for top tier but plenty of late 1st-2nd rounders.

Canucks would be out of the minds to invest a high draft pick on a goalie. They already have DiPietro and Silovs in the pipeline, and there will be lots of veteran backup goalies available as UFA's this off-season.

They desperately need help on the blueline.....depending on who's available I could see the Canucks drafting a d-man in the first round, and possibly even one in the second round.

Hoping we get Corson Ceulemans out of the AJHL. 6’2” very talented right shot D man.

If the season is done for the Canucks how will it impact their 1st round pick. Will they just go by point percentage. Either way looking like a top 8 pick.

Eklund
Beniers
Power
Hughes
Clarke
Lysell
Johnson
Edvinsson

Should be able to grab another bluechip prospect to add to Podkolzin/Rathbone.

I've been doing some research on him and I'm right there with you. I don't have him number 1 like I had Makar at one point, but right now I'd probably have him in my top 3 (along with Brandt Clarke and Luke Hughes). This is the type of defenseman I love.

It looks like we will draft 8-12, so I’m hoping teams aren’t as high on Cuelemans as we are, so we get him.

Every ranking I look at has him in the teens at the earliest. It's possible a team reaches early, but he should be sitting there right where the Canucks are set to pick. Of course, given who is currently running our scouting department I won't hold my breath.

Scott Morrow is another intriguing defenseman.

Both Morrow and Cuelemans are big, great skating, elite skilled, smart, puck moving (skating the puck) D, who push the play with their skills. They play fast, which is the modern game. Love to get both, but just one would be really nice. Sure wish we still had Bracket leading the scouts and draft.

For anyone looking for a great breakdowns of draft eligible prospects, give Scouching a look (He's also doing regular hits on Sportsnet 650 now). I'm posting this report on Simon Edvinsson, due to people not really understanding his play style/potential (I've seen more than a few people call him a pure offensive Dman), and most of what is said lines up with my views on him as well. Enjoy.
