Four of 10 scouts surveyed by TSN had Beniers at No. 2 and no scout ranked him lower than No. 6.

Well, there goes my theory NHL scouts are having doubts on his upside.

That's what I've been sayyyyying. There are a lot of people looking at Beniers as a Toews comparable based on their NCAA seasons. The 'lowest' comparison of him, if I can even call it that, is that he is like a less mean version of Ryan Kesler. I'd take Kesler on this roster all day every day.

Yeah, my hopes that he may have slipped seem to have been in vain.

Very happy for Matty, but bummed as someone who wants him on the Wings.

Imagine if Hughes falls all the way to 9 at Vancouver... do they take him? That would be cool to see.
I don't think NJ or VAN picks Luke. Having brothers on a team could complicate contract negotiations if either brother doesn't meet expectations. Generally speaking, you don't see teams trying to put brothers together, unless they specifically demand it like the Sedin twins did.

McTavish/Edvinsson/Hughes and I'm happy. In that order
Flip hughes for edvinsson and same for me. Pinelli moved up the board some, I was hoping for an outside chance of getting him in the 2nd but looks like they gotta get him at 22!

I've got Luke either going to Anaheim, LA or Ottawa.

I'm still in on Wallstedt/Eklund/McTavish/Svechkov as the guys I want at 6. I won't be mad about Edvinsson but if we go defense I'd prefer Clarke in that spot.

Interesting to see Lucius consistently ranked in the top 10 on bob's list. NHL scouts must see something I don't in him (I mean, they probably see a lot I don't, I'm no expert lol). I'd rather take Sillinger or even Coronato if you want to take a swing at a goal scoring potential center in that range. Maybe his injuries really held back his top game and scouts know this.

Assuming the top 5 goes as McKenzie's list says, give me Hughes, Clarke, Johnson, or Sillinger. Take a big swing. Wouldn't mind Guenther but I feel like we have a similar enough player in Zadina. The four guys I listed bring a different element to our team.

I'd rather have Hughes over Wallstedt or Eklund. D or center, it's time to build a real core. I'm not even concerned about BPA any more as long as it's not a stupid reach like Arizona does every draft.

His skating is still bad even though people talk about how much it's improved. Lucius also is terrible defensively and the motor isn't there for me. If he figures it out then maybe he's a 30 goal winger but I don't see him sticking at center.

I mean that's why he'd play with Seider

I get it. But Luke isn't as good offensively as his brother despite having similar stats in his draft year. His passing isn't nearly as good as Quinn's.

I think a Hughes comparable would be either Nick Leddy or a poor man's Cam Fowler. I'd take either on Detroit, but I think that Clarke will be a more impactful defender and there's a good chance the forwards left at 6 will also be more impactful from this draft.

Guessing Hughes falls farther than 8 and we still take Wallstedt out of need. Unless McTavish falls to us. Columbus more than likely takes Clarke or Edvinsson, and Eklund goes #3.

Oh I agree with that assessment. There's a few guys I like more than him. I just wouldn't mind him

If Hughes is there at 6 and Eklund and Beniers are gone, I hope Ijzerman sprints to the stage and pick this beast. His upside is insane, could be an amazing 1st line, PP quarterback player that brings offense. Let Seider be his partner and you have your 1st line sorted.

Hughes doesn't seem like an Yzerman defenseman at all. Decent size but not physical at all. Very weak on defense. More a skate the puck out of trouble type than a passer. I'm just not seeing Luke Hughes as the guy who is going to slide on the ice and block a shot in the final minutes of a game and that's the kind of player that Yzerman filled Tampa's blueline with.
