Anaheim holds all the tie breakers against us if we finish with the same record so we need them to get at least one more point then us. But it was nice to see them come back and win a game down 2-0 and scored 3 goals in the 3rd.

Our pick is out of reach of Buffalo, seeming less likely to be below Anaheim and is in a bit of danger of catching up to Columbus or Detroit. We do have some tough games against the Islanders and Bruins coming up tho and Detroit and Columbus play eachother twice to finish the season.

McTavish is going to be a stud. Smart kid with a rocket of a shot that is hard to knock off the puck and an underrated playmaker. Kid is going to thrive.
You’ve probably mentioned it before, but if we win a few of our remaining games and wind up finishing 7th, do you take Edvinsson to fill a need or go BPA?

No, because Edvinsson is not close enough to the BPA. I have him ranked in the teens. I feel Edvinsson is a good first round prospect, but taking him in the top 10 does not make sense to me, because he lacks the passing ability or shooting ability or high-level offensive awareness to ever be an elite scoring defenseman at the NHL level. I do like him as a great transitional defenseman who plays good, mid-pairing caliber defense and can possibly top 40 points a few times.
To me, the Devils are fine at LD and do not have a big need there, anyway. If a potential dominant player like Owen Power were available, I would throw the positional stuff out of the window and take him. But I can't see anything dominant in Edvinsson's projection. He will certainly make any NHL team better with his stellar combination of size/skating/hands, but I could not see drafting him over some of the potentially franchise-changing talents who could be available at #7 like Eklund or Guenther or Clarke.
Ducks are as thin at LD as any prospect pool in the NHL. I can't see them taking Clarke at #2, but their only legit LD prospects are Thrun, LaCombe and Mahura, all of whom project to more bottom-pairing, situational guys. None of those three would be a sure bet for the Devils top 5 LD prospects, for reference. Therefore, I feel all of Power, Hughes and Edvinsson will be of great interest to them, especially when you factor in that they all share qualities of players the Ducks have traditionally targeted in their past decade of draft history.

Imagine a top pairing of Power and Drysdale. That would possibly be one the best pairings in the league and I feel like their skills would compliment each other very well. If I was them I’m drooling at that idea

Anaheim had the lead all game and then choked giving up 2 goals in the last 5. Seeming less possible they’ll be ahead of us

By the same token, everything will be already decided so their opponents will likely not give a 100% effort.
This draft is like 2012, doesn't look like there's a difference maker available on attack outside of maybe Guenther. Wouldnt be opposed to full on NYI'ing it. They ended up getting Pelech and the guys they traded for Leddy and Barzal out of that strategy.

Definitely don’t reach for need in this or any other draft. If the top 3 D are gone by our pick then just be happy adding a potential top line (or top 6) forward to the prospect pipeline to go along with Hughes, Hischier and Bratt. We all know that more goal scoring and top end talent is needed up front as well so why not add a Berniers, Eklund or Guenther to our Holtz, Mercer, Foote, Clarke, Thompson ect....
If we keep winning games, I think eklund is our guy unless somehow Clarke drops
If we end up 5th or later I think it's gonna be Luke Hughes. I don't see Power or Clark lasting past the 3rd pick, Hughes is much more raw than the other top picks, he's not dynamic/explosive like Quinn, I think he'll fall and I don't think Fitz will be able to resist adding Jack's brother, questionable as that might be.
Just wondering how confident you are that Anaheim would go Hughes over Clarke. Given the fact Anaheim typically likes size and to be a “heavy team,” I would be surprised if they didn’t go Power over both. Their prospect pipeline is bare in regards to scorers, right? I wonder if they’d go forward over D man.
After the Ducks’ late failure last night against the Kings, it is starting to look like the Devils will slot at 4 behind Seattle (assuming we stay behind Columbus, Detroit and Ottawa). Being in the Clarke camp, this concerns me. Best case would be Buffalo, Anaheim and/or Seattle winning the two lottery balls so Devils stay at 4. How likely is it that Clarke is still available at 4, 5 or 6?

Power has been the consensus top pick for a while however many question his hockey IQ and instincts then some praise him so that's my only worry with him....And that we have a bunch of depth on the left side.
