Just a reminder. This tournament is not a good gauge for future NHL success.

from my teams pov.

amazing WJC : Cody Hodgson, Jordan Schroeder , Olli Juolevi.

Disappointing wjc: Elias Pettersson , bo Horvat , brock boeser, Quinn Hughes.

A bunch of highly touted 1st round drafted D-men in this tourny, yet our boy Topi takes it home as a 3rd rounder at age 18. I hope HF is ready for the hype train.:laugh:

The funny part is the moron(s) that actually picked Niemela. Seriously how the hell besides getting 5 or 6 points against to the weakest teams in tournament could you name him the best dman. Heinola was there best dman by a mile (even his own coach thought so!!!). Go watch the Sweden, US and Canada games and tell me how the hell you'd say he's the best dman let alone better then Heinola lol Byram was the best dman by far and Sanderson played great the last two games + York who was great for all games except the semi final

Not taking anything away from the players you named because all if them were fantastic, but Niemela was solid in all situations. His numbers are very good and he did his job very well. The points were just icing. One player does not push a hockey team into winning (usually) but he did his job successfully and for a 3rd rounder it's great to see.

I don't even know what you are basing your opinion on?

Tell us how he played badly in those games? Show us situations and underlying numbers saying he was horrible ever? Or is this your "eye" test?

I didn’t get the Heinola hype. He was everywhere but was doing too much all over the ice. His controlled zone entry/exits were sloppy, offensively he just looked for Lundell even if it was the low percentage option, and defensively he was constantly losing his man and chasing puck carriers.

He seems like a very unpredictable D which is a nightmare for his partner.

Yeah Zegras could have easily won both MVP and best forward here, but Stuezle is also deserving of an award....Two best forwards IMHO

Sorry, you know what, I was looking for forwards (because I saw the other table earlier) and it took me a second to realize it was defence only.

Someone's a little salty.

It says "Video unavailable". Could be a country/rights issue.

It's not important, but I will give you the Closed Captioned version.

"From the Film: When Harry Met Sally"

Meg Ryan, Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fischer are sitting at dinner.

Bruno Kirby: "It spoke to you, and that pleases me."

Fin.

I refuse to believe that the Leafs faithful will hype one of their players prematurely.
We Leafs fans never do that. :sarcasm: In all seriousness though, it's nice to see him being rewarded for a great tournament. I got to watch most of the games and from what I saw, he was consistently the most reliable defenseman amongst a few. His advantage outside of being the points leader was not playing on a stacked team. I kind of wish he had gotten Heinola's ice time a little and PP1 slot because I think he did more with less. Heinola is a good defenseman but he was trying to do far too much and was vastly less successful at doing it.

As a Leafs fan, Topi's ability to get shots through to the net in traffic and his willingness to shoot the puck is very welcome. If he can be a steady 2-way guy much like Sandin, Lilly and Dermott, we've got a good crop of young d-men.

Part of the health and competitiveness of an organization is to continue to draft well even as those picks start to drop in the drafting order as the team improves. It's particularly critical in the cap era.

The Leafs appear to have done very well and it's a good sign for their fans and their organization.

Now I have to go throw up.

I feel you. Honestly, I've been a Leafs fan for well over 30 years now and in my time as a Leafs fan, I've known nothing but incompetence. What we have going right now in terms of player drafting/ scouting and development is a foreign concept to me. Hopefully, it can translate to success with the big club.

Also, seeing as how you're a Sens fan, I would be quite giddy to be bringing in Stutzle, Sanderson, Branstrom, Norris, Formenton on top of Chabot, Tkachuk, Murray, Bown, White, Batherson. The battle of Ontario is about to get revived again. Not that you guys need to ice a respectable roster to beat the Buds. I'm excited.
