Is this what they selected or your projections?

That defense holy moly... I will be quite shocked if these guys get a single point.

Is this what they selected or your projections?

Looks like an expanded shortlist they elected to keep. They were supposed to make cuts after today's friendly against Austria which didn't happen.

Upon further inspection, there are still 4 U18 guys on the team so it's pretty clear who the final 3 cuts are gonna be, they were probably just selected to stick around for the experience.

I don't know. Swiss media only wrote about a positive case in the Italian team, but didn't point out who it was.
There were multiple covid cases in the Italian team. At the moment it is still unclear if Italy has currently enough players to partecipate to the WC in Riga. It is really disappointed that the Italian hockey officers were not able to schedule a covid vaccine appointment for any players in the roster. We have to hope that some players can recover in time, there is nothing else to do at the moment.

What are chances Clara is on final roster?

There is no relegation this year, is it? If I am correct, the team Italy can take this as an opportunity to give some young players a chance. If there was a relegation, it would this situation would be very unpleasant for them.

Agreed, but no team should be taking a kid who just turned 16 to the WC, Especially as a goalie. I am sure it would be amazing opportunity for him but if he ever got in and had to face action. Yikes, playing as a skater as a freshly turned 16 year old would be already a huge challenge, but as a goalie, I would pray for him.

big lost from Italy - best goalkeaper Bernard, all defensman - Tauferer, Pavlu and Zannata, and Morini, D. Kostner, S. Kostner, Alberga, Insam....

He will probably be a no.3 goalie. I think it is going to be huge for him. Of course if he really had to be in the net in a game he would probably get smashed, but I don't expect that.

Goaltending will become the biggest issue. One backup goalie with just 23 games played as a pro, one junior goaltender with 10 games played for a farm team in Switzerland and one young boy.

Don’t be so sure, it can happen especially in covid atmosphere where guys have played inconsistent number of games. All it takes is 1 goalie to go down and all of a sudden you have the potential for a kid who just turned 16 playing against the best players in the world. It’s a short tournament too, so it’s not like guys have a lot of time to rest and recover. 16 year olds struggle in junior and junior A, playing against guys on Canada, Finland and USA will be massive task for Italy’s no.2 and 3 if they get time. I hope that the other guy recovers from covid.

They still have 2 more goalies. I agree it would be brutal to send a 16 years old kid to the net to face NHL and KHL players, but I don't think this is going to happen.

If there's one team at this tournament that simply could not afford to lose any of its key players to injury and/or Covid, it was Italy.

They play Germany in the first game. I suspect Germany is licking its chops.
