Time to make this thread, we’re over halfway through. Wanted to make a separate thread from the 2021 draft thread. If you’re not interested in our draft position probably don’t even bother posting here

Currently we are 4th from the bottom, behind Ottawa/Detroit/Buffalo. Other teams to pay attention to: NJD, VAN, NSH, SJS

It’s also worth noting that Seattle gets the third spot going into the lottery.

1. Buffalo
2. Ottawa
3. Seattle
4. Detroit
5. Anaheim

If Detroit wins today they pass us on the standings, yeah it’s that bad

Current Tankathon standings here.

I'm actually shocked to see we're doing this badly. I was predicting a bottom-10 finish, probably closer to the 10th spot than the very bottom, which is where we're currently headed.

Before the season started I remember berating some interview for saying we'd be dead last in the league this season. Guess it just shows how much I really know...

they're not getting a top 3 pick, that's for sure

another awful season rewarded with a 5th or 6th overall pick

Also it statistically is much more beneficial in terms of positional ranking and odds to finish second rather than third this year. If we finished 3rd then we have the 4th position and have ~10% odds of any top 3 as opposed to finishing second, getting second in the draft and having ~13% odds at any of the top 3, also the 4th best odds averages out to drafting 4.6 while second averages to 3.5

Buffalo is pathetic. Ducks have struggled but they have their reasons and excuses.
Buffalos roster should legitimately at least be in playoff discussions, like Hall Eichel Reinhart Dahlin Skinner Oloffsson Staal their is so much good talent, I honestly think Buffalo has been detrimental to the League and the young talent they get, Ristolainen had so much potential, the guys I listed, many could have been better, they are a parasite

edit: they have also killed Montour who should be better than he is, I’d like to see a list of players who could be way better if Buffalo weren’t the ones that owned their rights

Don't remember where, but I remember reading a Buffalo fan commenting that he's letting a 5-year-old run his fantasy team this year, just so that the rest of the fantasy owners know what it feels like to have the Buffalo Sabres in their league.

I chuckled out loud for a good 10 minutes afterwards...

As long as the young players progress and score goals and generate points i'm ok with the tanking via veterans being tuned out.
SJ helping the Ducks draft position last night. Hope SJ & LA keeps winning so they don't get as good of a pick.

This IMO is the one draft where I'm not that interested in a lotto win. There isn't that elusive consensus #1 player available, it's more of a wide open type draft.
That and scouting isn’t going to be as good as in years past.... due to covid.... I imagine there will be a lot of later 1st round picks that end up much higher in redrafts

La is fine they don’t really need more young assets... they are basically in phase 2 of rebuild. Really all they need a top dmen to replace doughty at some point

Someone on the Rangers forum was saying teams like the Rangers and Buffalo have a ton of skill and talent but no structure, and teams like Ottawa and Detroit have structure but not much skill or no top end talent.

Where do the Ducks fall? I feel there is lackluster in both Skill and talent of course but there is also no structure. Are they like a Tampa and Toronto that rely a lot on their speed and the rush. No. Are they like an Islanders or Boston team that clogs up the neutral zone and play a more tight defensive game , No. Are they a cycle team that spends most of their time in the opponents zone and generates offense by crashing the net, circling and applying pressure? No.

What is the Ducks structure? Eakins has no clue. It’s like whack a mole out there most shifts hoping to get a lucky bounce. Add that with lack of top end skill and talent and injuries to their Top two defenseman, and this is what you got. 8-15-6 record. No surprises

I could see New Jersey continue to submerge in the 2nd half. They are really not too good. If the last two seasons are any indication, the Ducks will heat up in the final 10 or so.

They will get hot the last 10 games of the season like they do every year when guys realize their jobs are in jeopardy if they don't pull their head out of their ass.

They are still keeping the draft rules the same as previous years and changing it next year, right? So teams can drop as much as 3 spots? The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this is the year a non-traditional market team wins the top pick and maybe even 2 out of the top 3.

this year's draft is D heavy while next year there's some great front-end talent like wright, savoie, and lambert

I wonder if part of the reason we've done so poorly this year is we haven't been able to beat up on the Western Canadian teams. I kind of miss them.

I expect the Ducks to be Bottom 10 again next year, so should hopefully have a shot at some of that talent.

I don't think this draft is going to be that great, but yeah, definitely defense being up there is going to help. Maybe get another 1st to get some D-men into the pipeline?
