I haven’t been following, how does Canada look? I’m assuming we’re the favourites?

There's a few good teams that can win it, Canada has a solid looking roster loaded with talent. First preseason game tommorow against Russia should be interesting

since when the heck is the WJC a solid platform to judge a prospect in the long run? it's a good opportunity for us to watch the prospects play, but it does not define how good or how bad they will be based on the 6 or 7 games they will play in the next 2 weeks. I've seen too many of our prospects rip up the WJC to only become nothing at the NHL, and I've seen our own prospects not too much at the WJC to be effective players on the team right now. I will stay away from names.

Byfield will be utilized as a 13th forward as per coaches decision. He will do his best for his country and the team. Just because he's the 13th forward doesn't make him a bad player I remember the 2009 world Juniors Evander Kane was the 13th forward.!

We are a favorite due to the fact, Laf and Dach is available to team Canada because of a NO NHL season, among other names. Pressure is on Canada and they are the favorite right now. But as usual anything can happen in hockey.

Lafreniere won't be playing.

I liked our team coming into this tourney a lot, but watching USA-Finland has made me a lot more confident about our chances.
Gotta say, I'm a lot more nervous about Russia than the States. Knight can steal games, and they have some high-end talent up front, but man that team just doesn't look scary.

The U.S. had their moments but I thought they would have done better against an iffy Finnish team. If you take away the 5 on 3 and the first 5 minutes of the second period when the Finns were rattled, and I thought the U.S. was better - but not a huge amount.

We'll see how the U.S. does against the Russians and Sweden's D. That will give us a better perspective on how strong they are.

As for Canada, there is zero chance we finish the round robin with less than 12 points.

Don't like Dach playing net-front, I feel like his talent would be somewhat wasted there. I'd switch him with Cozens; give Dach the half-wall to operate, and Cozens would provide a big body and finishing ability in front of the net.

That 2nd PP unit is insane. Byfield, Newhook, Perfetti, Quinn, and Harley could very well be the top unit for Canada any other year.

So pumped for today's game against Russia! Waking up at 2 AM for this one.

A little surprised Drysdale isn't on that 2nd unit.

Maybe they want him killing penalties? He was pretty good on the PK last year.

Such is the nature of playing for the greatest hockey nation on earth, sometimes you have to buy into team first roles. No room for egos, every guy on this team is a top unit PP for their respective club teams.

Dach was mostly a net front guy on the PP with the Hawks last year, and he did a pretty solid job of it once he was finally bumped up to the main unit.

Byfield on the 4th line is a statement about how deep Canada is at center, and not his skill level.
I don't think his skill level has ever really been the problem. He is probably more talented then a lot of the players ahead of him on the depth chart. If he can finally compete at the international level I don't see this team being stopped. He can't just sit on the outside and wait for the game to come to him though.

can't really get hyped up for a pre-tourney game. but am looking forward to a Canada v USA gold medal game. Hoping that's the way she goes.
