Well...TM and Sturm can't wait to get Brown back and put him on PP1. He was great there, in front of the net...in 2014. So it will surely work in 2022.

Are we gonna miss the playoffs? We might miss the playoffs. Edmonton and Vegas aren’t losing games…
Very unlikely. What is happening is basically all the playoff teams are feasting on the lesser teams. The Kings are in the middle of a stretch against mostly decent teams that ends next Wednesday vs Colorado.

After that the Kings play a bunch of mostly bad teams that they should be able to beat.

What's hilarious and even more frustrating is when they do place Arty and Arvi on the powerplay they don't even play their off wing for one timers.

Teams they should beat…like Seattle.

Loving the strokes for Vilardi "Gabe is protecting the puck well...nice spin" ...nice progress, Gabe!!! Gabe was the beast on Kingston and dominated the playoffs...and his teammate there, Jason Robertson rode Gabe's coat tails... a few years later, Jason Robertson is headed towards 40 goals. Gabe can't score 3 or get much of anything going. ..unless its the AHL.

This team needs to drastically overhaul everything about the PP. I love Moore and Danault but they are better ES players than PP players, Iafallo out there continues to be inexcusable. You just need guys who can fire the puck passed the goaltender, the Kings have 3 guys who can do that and don’t use two of them even in an extra attacker situation.
Arvidsson is a no brainer to have out there - he's creative and gets shots off quickly. Iafallo is not a PP1 guy in the NHL - prob not the KHL. Arvy can toe drag and get shots off where Iafallo would shoot in shins, dump in the corner or pass back to the point. You either have Danault or Kopi but not both. Vilardi is the kind of guy that would do well on a PP.. his ability to make moves and passes in tight spaces is really useful on a PP.

AND he grinds/works. It’s not like he’s Frk where it’s a bomb or nothing, he’s a monster at battling for the puck not just making offensive plays. It’s borderline offensive not having him out

Quinton needs to go back to the Reign. Get an adult stick and add bulk and muscle.
He looks 6'5" and 190. Quick hands, quick feet and plays smaller than Lizotte.
That's a huge problem.

Kings are 2-1 vs. Seattle this season. If they win the next one 3-1 is a good record vs anyone, even the worst teams in the league.

This game tonight sums up the issues with the Kings all year, lack of offensive finishing, Cal had another brain fart which for a low scoring team is back breaking, they struggled on the PP, they got all their offense from one line (anyone notice how the Kings rotate who is hot and who isn't as far as the top two lines), they had chances but no production from the third line.

As usual with the Kings it all comes down to whether they can score 3 goals in a game or not. It is by far the biggest indicator of whether the team wins or not and in comparison to most the rest of the league it is drastic.

The Kings are 26-6-3 in games where they score 3 goals in regulation
The Kings are 12-18-7 in games where they don't score 3 goals in regulation

To many games where the Kings have failed to reach the 3 goal level. A team this good defensively should not still be sweating the playoffs.

The Kings have 3 goals in regulation in only 48% of their games
Calgary has 3 goals in regulation in 66% of their games

That game was more valuable for the 3rd line--even their mistakes--than some soft end of season AHL games would be.
That line played really well tonight. One mistake in the offensive zone turned into a goal against vs one of the top lines in the league.
Otherwise they were grinding away. The next step is turning their possession into goals.

The problem is we have been saying that for awhile now, and it just isn't happening. I agree they had a pretty solid game possessing the puck (other than Gabe's awful turnover) but the Kings don't have a Matthews, Gaudreau or McDavid who is going to score enough to make up for lack of production from that line. They need those guys to start producing atleast semi-regularly. Like my previous post said, score 3 goals and this team is going to win most nights, and right now they need to figure out a way to get to 3 goals more than 48% of the time, and getting production from that line (whoever is on it) is probably the key.

Dont you think the easiest way to get more scoring is to improve the near league worst PP? 5x5 the team is doing decent.. my guess is the main difference re scoring between Kings and CGY is 17% vs 24% on the PP.

Yea the Kings need that kind of scorer and have the assets to acquire one. They just always seem to run a system that doesnt cater to that style of player.
The situational ice time that would be beneficial for the rookies is being spoon fed to the top two lines and top pp unit. So if the bottom lines arent creating their chances from the other teams mistakes while they are playing Todds system or grinding to create turnovers they arent getting many chances to play a creative run and gun style.

The Kings don't value the type of player that is going to give you a Top 10 PP. Not in drafts, not in trades and really not in free agency either (although some of that might not be from trying). No matter what they do, who they send out or how Sturm sets things up there is still a Jimmy and Joe's element that is going to dwarf the X's and O's. Look at every team who has a Top 10 PP, other than maybe St. Louis they all have multiple star offensive players. The Kings have no one who even resembles a star in their lineup.

The Kings have to win by getting goals throughout the lineup. The fourth line has done their part getting even 30 combined from Arty, Lizotte and Lemieux has been huge. They need to start getting some from the third line if they are going to win more games vs good teams.

Good points.

This is a good game to acknowledge that Kevin Fiala and Filip Forsberg are still unsigned with their respective clubs.

Would be f***ing beautiful to add either of them in the off-season. :)

Hmm...add Kings offense tax...add Fiala to the PK and take him off the PP...carry the 1....

Yep, Fiala would be good for 30 points from the 3rd line here!

This isn’t a sutter problem. This is a mclellan problem

sutter was the better coach tonight. He beat the Kings on the change battle all night long. Goal 2 by CAL was a result. Their top line was out against our bottom 2 lines too many times.

Second goal is so typical for either hockey or soccer.

You leave Gaudreau behind the net all alone, so it means you have one player in reserve but he could still find the open man.

Dont only watch the ******* puck or ball, those don’t score. Watch the player.

I do not blame Edler but do blame Vilardi.
