Kopitar got old, it was bound to happen, people just assumed he would age like Bergeron and he didn't, he aged like most other similar caliber players (Getzlaf, Staal, Carter). He can still be useful but Anze is never carrying a line anymore, he needs to be the 3rd best player on a 1st line, maybe the 2nd best player on a second line. If he's the best player on a line it needs to be a third line.

Shame on the Kings for not being able to find his replacement, they only had a dozen + years to do it.
Blake's philosophy on development is just horrible.

Kopitar was dominating to begin the season, but the minutes he was forced to play throughout his career may have finally caught up to him. It was such bullshit that TMac was playing him so many minutes the last two seasons instead of giving him a bit of rest.

Wasn't that the whole point of going out and signing Danault, cut down Kopi's minutes.

I think the jury is out regarding Kopitar being forced or demanding these minutes.

Either way, you're right he's been played into the ground.

My point is that if you are purposefully tanking, maybe don't ride your number 1C who has played more minutes than any other forwards through the 2010s for 21 minutes per game. Even then I don't think that was the plan, Danault hasn't picked up much of the heavy lifting, Kopitar is still taking the most defensive zone draws and is playing 2:48 more per game than Danault. In fact, Danalut said he signed with the Kings because he wouldn't have to carry the load in the dzone and would be deployed more offensively.

I'm sure TMac could have found a way to limit the minutes just slightly. He was 5th in TOI among forwards last season, they could have dropped that just a bit I feel.

Great shift from the 3rd line. 1st line with Danault are fantastic then we know once Kopi's line jumps on it's pretty much over.

I get your point, was more just saying I think a lot of us thought Danault was brought in to help take the pressure off Kopi. Seemed to work at the beginning of the season as Kopi came out flying but clearly TM rode him into the ground, and now Danault seems to be the fresher player most nights. Not sure anyone saw him scoring more goals than Kopi this year.
