It's unreal. I think next time his line goes out, Sturm holds him back and tells him to sit...and let Byfield and Iafallo go out, 4 on 5. Would be better and give them a better chance,

A 30 goal scorer at 4.5 wouldn't be bad, but he doesn't seem like a dude who drives his line, so he'd have to be put with some decent players.

Sure but at the same time, why would Buffalo want to retain $4.5 million for five years? That's some heavy retention. We just got Arvidsson, also a 30-goal scorer, for a second and a third. I can't imagine we could get Skinner at 50% retention for anything less than a 1st and a good prospect, and I'd rather have Arvidsson. Just a real terrible contract all around.

I don't disagree, but they may feel like its better than eating the full contract for the next 5 years, try and sell somewhat high on him. Teams do crazy things if they think it gives them a heads up in the playoffs. I also don't know how bad a Skinner buyout looks, I guess it just depends on what the Sabres want to do with him, and if anyone is willing to pay the price for Skinner at 50% or 75% retained.
