GDT: 2021-22 season game 18 LA Kings vs Arizona Coyotes @7:00pm 11/21/21

Kaliyev had 16 minutes of ice time, including 3:15 of PP time last game.

His OZ starts are 65%

You guys talk about the "4th line" and "3rd line" as if it's 1994. Things have changed.

Kaliyev is 17 games into his NHL career. He's being handled just fine.
Put Arthur in the top 6. That's where he belongs. He's a scorer.

Lias has played 92 games in the NHL, and been mostly terrible.
Lias has been good this year when he's played, and Brown has been absolute dog shit.

apparently you have a different perspective of good. He’s played his best at the NHL level this year. Much much more useful than Brown so far.
He had 0 points, only 3 shots, and a near team worst EV CF% of 41.1 in 3 games played

Out of 25 players who've played for LA this year, only 2 have been worse, and both are in Ontario now.

Aside from a few games down the stretch last year, Lias has been terrible his entire NHL career thus far.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be given more time at some point, but to just assume he should be in the lineup over Grundstrom/Brown is pretty far fetched.

TM's job is not to put young guys in the lineup because it'll be more fun.

You're being deliberately obtuse.

Durzi in particular got ripped away from 'important' AHL games and is on the NHL roster whose PP is hurting and who is playing the worst team in the league. If not now, when?

You've been consistently burying guys for what they did at the beginning of the season--when are they supposed to get a chance? Chicken-and-egg issue here.

Brown hasn't been on the ice for a 5v5 goal since last month and has been on for several against, including being directly responsible last game after being on the ice for five f***ing seconds. If not now, when? For a guy who wants to punish the kids for stuff they did in depth roles when the team was losing at the beginning of october, you sure have a long rope for Brown.

Coyotes playing an 8:00 pm MST game on a Sunday night. People attending the game won't get home until midnight. Genius scheduling.

Through 17 games this season, the Kings are 8-7-2, good for 18 points, with 46 goals for, 44 goals against, 10/60 on the power play, 33/43 on the penalty kill, and 591 shots on goal.

Let's see how that compares to recent years.

20-21: 8-6-3, 19 points, 54 GF, 48 GA, 16/64 PP, 45/54 PK, 485 SOG
19-20: 5-11-1, 11 points, 43 GF, 66 GA, 7/63 PP, 43/61 PK, 606 SOG
18-19: 5-11-1, 11 points, 34 GF, 55 GA, 8/56 PP, 40/51 PK, 470 SOG
17-18: 11-4-2, 24 points, 55 GF, 41 GA, 11/60 PP, 57/62 PK, 569 SOG

Pacing about where we were last year. Better than the previous two tank years, not as good as our last playoffs.

I'm not burying him for his 3 games this year. He's played 92. I was responding to the obviously false narrative some other posters were pushing that he was good this year. He wasn't.

Also, Lias didn't play at the beginning of the season. His 3 games came during the win streak, where he still found a way to have terrible analytics.

The idea that he should obviously be in over Grundstrom is silly.

Brown gets a longer leash. Probably until halfway through this season. Todd is going to wait and see how he does with less playing time. That's how it works with accomplished vets.

Lias will get his chance when someone else gets injured or scratched or gets covid.

Lias is on the ice for warm-ups. :naughty:

They should bench Brown after that game last night, but we all know that wouldn't happen.

Edit:
Lias In. Moore out.
Faust back.

Edit 2:
Moore is actually in. No clue who came out.

there's something kinda shitty to me about pinning those analytics on lias when kopitar/brown and lizotte/lemieux have equal shares in said analytics

I was hoping someone took Faust for a broken stick and some used tape so we could have NNickson fulltime forever

To be clear, I don't like all of Todd's decisions. I would also be in favor Brown being scratched and turned into a spare forward right now.

But most of TMac's personnel decisions have been completely reasonable, and people are exaggerating and misrepresenting how young players have been deployed.

We do have too many players occupying the same space. Blake may have gone overboard. If you want to criticize management for that, go for it I guess. I would like to see a trade get made to clear up some space.

Arvidsson isnt scoring and Iafallo hasnt really been scoring on the powerplay so why not try something else and use a guy that is cut out for the role. Why you would defend these guys is wild. Do you really enjoy watching the powerplay?

But Arvidsson was brought in to score. So he's going to get first dibs. And no, it's not going to be, well, the vet didn't score in one game, time to play the young guys all day. Iafallo has been maybe the best forward on the team. Is this our first time watching sports? It doesn't happen that way. If the young guy doesn't score, he's the one that will get his minutes cut. Other than the very elite, that's how it goes. Unless you do what the Ducks did this summer, which was absolutely nothing. Same thing in Ottawa. If a team has no vets, they have no choice but to play young guys. If they had more vets that made money, they would very likely play a lot.

Why not try something else? Why not? I have no control over it. I'm not defending the guys. I'm giving a reason why they're there. What difference does it make how much we enjoy watching the PP? It's not going to change what TM does, or why he does it.

It's like fans yelling shoot at the game. Is the player going to shoot when you yell shoot? Does the player not want to score? Does TM not want to win games?

You're being deliberately obtuse.

Ripped away. A bit dramatic. If all he does is get monetarily rewarded for a good start in the AHL, I'm sure he won't be crying at night.

TM's job isn't to play young guys. It's to win. If he doesn't feel that Durzi will help him accomplish that, against whoever, then he won't play. When he feels that he's ready, he'll get in there. It's the NHL. It's not about the feelings of the newly called up prospect or his parents. Sutter did that to whoever it was years ago, and look where he is as a coach today. I don't know why Blake called him up, but I know Blake shouldn't be making lineup decisions. That's not his job.

If not now, when? Wednesday? Maybe he wants to get him a couple practices with the team. You know how coaches love their practices.

100% agreed on that last part, too many cooks in the kitchen and that really wasn't any mystery going into the season

Tell me you didn't watch Lias Andersson play without telling me you didn't watch Lias Andersson play.
