If the Kings got Danault, what makes you think they'd even use him correctly?

We already had a guy on the Roster capable of this role. His name was Jeff Carter.

The Penguins didn't trade for Carter for his offense. That was just a bonus / surprise.

You're supposed to use specialists to take the defensive load off your best offensive players.

Ever wonder why the Kings are so terrible while having Kopitar and Doughty on the roster at the same time? A partial reason is because they're the dumbest team in the NHL when it comes to player utilization, and have been for years.

Kings don't get it. The rest of the league does. Terrible coaching.

Part of it is also they've had no players. They should've used Dowd or Shore more, just to give Kopitar a break, but they weren't good. The Caps haven't won anything with Dowd either.

But if the Kings won't use players properly, then there's no point in doing anything.

They need a coach- who has more pull with the office than the players - to tell them no for the good of the franchise.

But they had a coach in Sutter who had plenty of pull with the front office and Kopitar played in all situations and 20+ mins and night and Doughty played in all situations at 24+ mins a night. And Quick under Sutter practically played 70 games a season. They only player that got accountability was Brown who got moved down in the lineup.

So in all your wisdom of how thing should be , who should be playing along side Kopitar who has a lick of chemistry? There's a reason Brown is there, because NOBODY HAS IT and they play well together. You can't deny this. it sure as hell isn't mr. inconsistent Kempe , who's good for at least 2 offensive zone penalties a week.

I tend to agree. Kopitar doesn't mind working hard in the defensive zone, but he has always had a problem imposing his will in the offensive zone on a consistent basis. Brown would be a good 3rd liner on a contending team, if he approached it with the right attitude. Doughty feels entitled to, well everything. I think Quick is aging gracefully. He knows the score, but when he is in there he competes hard.

Kopitar didn’t always want defensive zone work. Terry Murray had to drill that in his skull to even do it.

This is a fair statement, but it happened early and often with Terry Murray. Kopitar responded by reserving more energy for use in the defensive zone.

Great player, I just wish he expended more effort in the offensive zone at times.

Doughty plays his bag off, when he feels like it. Frankly, there have been large portions of recent seasons, when he didn't feel like it.

Whether or not his is playing on a shit team, or is underrated is irrelevant. He is getting paid $11M a season to be one of the best defensemen in the NHL, and win games.

DD played his ass off in 65% of 55 game season while earning roughly 1/3 of what the entire roster earned. He is the epitome of entitled. There is a reason why he isn't captain.
I'd wager that he is OVERRATED.

Doughty and the rest should've thought of that between Sept 2018 and Jan 2019. If they had just been average, nothing but mediocre, during that time, Doughty would still very likely have most of his friends around.

Instead, they never got out of 30th place.

These wishful thinking pipedream scenarios where teams can just trade for whoever to improve are funny. Every team wants a "dynamic" defenseman and "star" but these guys are rarely available and if they are, there's usually red flags. Jones is available, Provorov, Sergachev are not. Blake will try to improve the team but if he fails to land a "star" then it may not be all on him. It takes 2 sometimes 3 teams to make a deal work and there's a bunch of reasons why it doesn't always work.

It's totally relevant. People in this thread are bitching about him mouthing off; he's earned it.

You spend most of the year playing Norris caliber hockey on a basement team, doing literally everything one can to win a game, and no one else is carrying their weight...and now he's getting criticized for saying exactly what this forum is thinking, 'hey get me some help,' and people are complaining about it. Which Doughty do people want, the passionate one who cares about winning and is a little mouthy? Or one that just falls in line like a good little soldier?

No wonder this dude is sick of the media when a bunch of armchair cowboys who are saying the literal exact same thing look at his comments and go "hey wait, you can't do that, primadonna."

I don't see a scenario where they land a #2 defenseman or a star player without trading 1 maybe both of those guys.
