Oskar Sundqvist’s long interview on The Cam & Strick Podcast was VERY interesting as to things big and small. Lots of interesting behind the scenes tidbits.

It is fairly obvious he hopes to return when he is a UFA. It sounds like Berube wants him back, as he asked about Sunny’s current contract length when saying his goodbyes.

Due to injury recovery/rehab, Sundqvist was NOT supposed to play so many games early on, but he couldn’t take the planned games off due to roster issues caused by COVID and injuries. (He is having another procedure on his knee…)

Some tidbits about Steen were revealed. For example, (as reported elsewhere) Steen was salty about being sent to the 4th line during the Cup year, but eventually embraced it and provided motivational speeches/text to his line.

Sundqvist gushed about Army’s abilities as a GM, but noted behind the scenes he is a serious/intimidating/scary dude(!) similar to his current GM, Yzerman.

Praised Tarasenko, but noted he would have to tell him time to time to “shut up” on the bench.

Lots of beer and drinking stories…including being hungover at practice, almost missing a practice (with Steen bailing him out).

I was almost caught off guard how loose and free Sundqvist was speaking during the interview considering he is a current NHL player and on another team. That is not a criticism of Sunny, I was just surprised as I would expect more “vanilla-ness” from a current NHL-er.

A highly recommend listen. The interview starts anywhere from a half an hour to an hour into the podcast.

So basically he has no clue and thinks it will be anywhere between 4.5 - 7, which anybody could have guessed.
He mentioned that those are the numbers he is hearing being floated out there. I'd say he has the inside scoop as much as anyone else that covers the team.

Hard disagree on that. He has a radio gig because he’s a former player. I have never seen Jamie Rivers break a story in my entire life. I’ve never even seen him report any rumors that have become true.

He doesn't try to break stories or report rumors. Agree to disagree.

Strickland is speculating 5-6 million range for Perron, depending on contract length.

Noted Perron is 3rd highest in points over the last five years in some powerplay metric.

I get the sense that Strickland doesn’t think a new Perron and Blues contract is as an absolute certainty as others assume. Likely? Perhaps, but not a certainty.

The Cam and Strick Podcast is really good, they don’t ask softball vanilla questions. They ask interesting stuff and you learn about their guests’ personalities. Cam Janssen is a super entertaining dude.

I haven’t listened to this one yet but I will tonight. I’m a bit surprised about the Tarasenko part haha, I wonder what Tarasenko is so vocal about. Not getting the puck enough?

I agree on how free he was speaking, I was like “uhhhh you do know you’re still an active player right?” Lol.

Another cool part was him saying the next time they played Washington after the Wilson hit that Wilson apologized. Almost humanizes Tom Wilson….almost

And even better was him saying one of his first games back after said hit was against Minny and Marcus Foligno was talking to him before the faceoff saying it was a “bullshit hit” and that’d he’d take care of him, in which Foligno did fight Wilson the next time those teams met up. That was a pretty cool story all around I think.

Perron discussion starts around 22:40. This could be what Rivers was discussing earlier on 101.

Spittin Chiclets has really changed the game for hockey podcasting. The "uncensored" (but still giving the player final say in what makes the air) dynamic has been a huge success. Both players and teams have discovered that there is a big appetite for hearing the way guys talk in the room and that team sponsors aren't leaving so long as the players aren't talking about taboo topics (racism, admitting illegal activity, graphic sex depictions, etc).

As a fan, I love it. The Chiclets guys are a bit much for me, but I love the impact that they've had on other hockey podcasts. Guys are still super vanilla on TV and talking to print media people, but podcast interviews are often fantastic. I think Cam and Strick do a great job of having these loose conversations without it constantly devolving into dick jokes and sex stories the way the Chiclets guys do. It's a great happy medium.

With chiclets the sex stories have at least been limited a bit ever since Biz got a serious girlfriend. But everything you said is spot on.

To me the ultimate podcast would be Cam, Strick, Biz, and Whitney. I love the latter two personally, sometimes it’s over the top but I still thoroughly enjoy them.

Cam and Strick just need some more backing to get some improvements. More short clips on their page, timestamps, more promotion to reach a bigger audience. They pull great guests and the podcast itself is great, so the solid foundation is there.

Every time Cam has been on Spittin Chiclets it’s been an unreal funny interview. They definitely would gel together well on a legit podcast together.

Chiclets and Cam And Strick really opened my eyes as to how important having a few of those locker room guys/high character guys really is. How many big stars go on those shows and have most of their stories revolve around the shenanigans of a 4th liner/bottom pair d-man? It’s crazy lol.

Where can I stream the Cam and Strick podcast? Just been too lazy to find it for myself
Anywhere that podcasts are available. There is also a Youtube version but it has a crazy amount of ads that other listening methods don't suffer from.

Starting to come to terms with the idea of Perron not returning next year. He totally deserves it but I'm not sure the Blues have the cap flexibility to extend Perron at an AAV in the 5-7M range for multiple years.

They have the ability to make plenty of cap flexibility. Scandella, Barbashev, Tarasenko...there are players that can be moved.

If Perron isn't back it's because the Blues were too lazy to do it. It shouldn't be a problem.

I have no worries about Perron. Blues have multiple options to clear space for him.

To me a two year deal at around 5.5 or 6 for Perron makes the most sense for both player and team. He’s absolutely worth 6 million production wise right now and he’s coming off a significantly discounted deal. The two year term limits the team’s risk of a boat anchor, but it also gives Perron a crack at another two year deal if he remains productive.

Dude and his agent publicly requested a trade last year and has made 0 attempt to retract it publicly. Him waiving his NTC is much more likely than him not
I don't think Tarasenko wants to leave The Blues this offseason. I think he really enjoyed playing together with Buchnevich and Thomas, and still sees The Blues as potential Stanley Cup contenders; so he wants to play out his contract during this window, and see what situation The Blues' team is in after that. IF his current line continues to gel into an even more effective offensive force, AND Buchnevich, Thomas, and Kyrou continue their breakouts into stardom, AND Army fortifies the roster, improving the team defence and defensive pairings, he might well choose to re-up with The Blues, IF they offer a satisfying contract total money wise and in number of years. IF not, he'll gladly sign with a new team offering a significantly more favourable contract.

I think the same is true for Army. He wants to keep this team together, and see how he can improve the defence, without losing Tarasenko too early, see how Vladdy plays next season, see how The Blues' cap situation will be just after that season, and THEN make the decision of whether or not to re-sign him, based on team needs, the new cap situation, and how much money and what length of contract Tarasenko will accept.

I think Tarasenko doesn't want to jeopardize losing some leverage he has with Army, by officially retracting his trade request. His keeping the situation the way it is now, might just make Army's final offer on their negotiating a re-signing after next season, a littler higher, which would benefit Tarasenko, IF both parties want to see him return.

I suspect that The Blues' cap situation by then, together with Tarasenko's desired minimum contract length, will force Army to decide to not re-sign him; as he won't want to risk having the later years of that contract become a burden, and also won't want to have so much cap room invested in an older, declining player, when The Blues' core of key players needs to get younger to compete with The NHL's best teams. But it will be nice for The Blues to, at least, go for it all again next season with Tarasenko still on the team.
