This USA team is so underwhelming and slow. Lucky to have 8 points.

Also is Ferraro the biggest "anyone but the US" homer of all time? The guy is irritating to say the least.

Bad plays with the puck? When?

Miller rarely makes a pass that doesn’t connect. He made one bad play with the puck against Canada. That’s about it.

He’s been very good defensively I just haven’t seen a whole lot of offense. Wish he’d just attack the game more but seems like he’s in a stay at home dman role.

the pk goal where he lost his stick he made a tremendous play blocking the shot.

By the way Turcotte makes a great pass on the goal yes but he and Caufield has done absolutely nothing until that goal. They won’t go far if these two continue to do nothing.

zegras looks like the far superior player to turcotte

I think it's a matter of since he's been here, our really good choices have been Stepan, Kreider, and Miller. There are other potential "really good" choices out there, like Chytil, Shesterkin, K'Andre Miller, Lundkvist, etc., but we still don't know how they'll work out. The fact that in his tenure, we haven't drafted and developed an elite-level talent (and no, I'm not talking McDavid or Kucherov or Hedman-level ) is somewhat troubling. And you can't just write if off as due to having a dearth of first round picks, as we've whiffed on McIlrath, probably on Andersson, with the jury out on Kravtsov. There are a ton of top players taken outside the top-half of the draft that are elite performers--Pastrnak, Marchand, Carlson, DeBrincat, Guentzel (debatable), Stone, Gaudreau, Kucherov who I can't mention, Boeser, Teravainen, Aho, Point, and on and on. Why haven't we hit a grand slam like any of those guys? It's funny, because the closest we've probably come under Gorton to grabbing a guy that ends up posting elite numbers is JT Miller, who we trade.

Again, this isn't a "hindsight bias" thing with me. It's just odd that with the league possessing a real wealth of high-end talent, we've really only been able to get any through trades and signings. We haven't been able to snag that guy with our mid/late-first that really explodes, and we haven't grabbed that overlooked guy in the third or fourth that ends up being a star. Some of it is luck, but after 10+ years (and a horrible pick like McIlarth) you start to wonder if the guy has a keen enough eye to spot those players, if his staff sucks, or if it's a combination of both.

The last two drafts could be huge, as there are a lot of guys I really like. And we have some guys out there still that could turn into strong players. But the whole history of Gordie Clark drafts, it seems like we're fine at drafting and developing middle-six guys and second-pair defenders, but we can't really identify the highest of the high-end guys.

Nailed it with this post

Zegras is goooood.

Too bad we couldnt find a way to trade up and grab him.
Kravtsov #9 pick 2018. Zegras #9 pick 2019. I hope VK can match what a great pick this is looking like for Anaheim right now.

I know Turcotte is a known for his terrific defensive ability as a center as well but Zegras looks so much better in the offensive zone.

I thought Miller was very good today. I don't remember any bad plays with the puck. I think since the opener he has settled in really nicely. Must be watching a different player than some of you.
He's already becoming a polarizing player lol.
I only got to watch the first period because of work and he didn't look too bad. We know this is the kind of talent we took a chance on because of his physical abilities and size but Patience/development are gonna be very key.

I didn't watch but most of the reviews of Miller sound nice compared to last game. Steady, no big gaffes, a couple nice rushes/plays in the O zone....ppl forget he's a defender who you'd rather not notice that much, especially at this stage of his development

I concede that I may be missing things, but the mistakes are definitely there, and definitely noticeable. A couple instances of losing the puck while trying to walk the line, passing to no one in the rush, blind chips up the boards when he has time in the d zone, etc.

Edit:
I also really didn't like when he took a n tripping penalty in the d zone, and responded by turning away from the play and slamming his stick on the ice while the Czechs had the puck.

Was at the game. Apart from that one mistake when he passed to noone, Miller played well IMO. He is such a nice combination of size, skating and skill, you can almost see through the player he can be, if (when) he puts it all together.

Also, Zegras is to be a PLAYER, he is just so good. Turcotte didn't strike me as No. 3 or 4 draft pick (can't remember exactly). Kaliev's shot ... wow.
