That would require:
1. Targeting a FA that is willing to sign a short term deal here, that has a strong season worth a 1st during the trade deadline
2. Pulling off said trade at the deadline

That is a big ask for the guys in charge at the moment.

Our GM does not believe in trading for picks.

Do they have any reclamation projects that look like they're going to fail out of the NHL, preferably having to go through waivers next year, that we can trade our 2nd round pick for?

As for tanking, I will wait until free agency is done to decide whether I'm on team tank. The odds that I will be discouraged enough to join team tank are perfectly perpendicular to the odds that we will win a draft lottery, unless by some miracle Benning is fired before July 1st and replaced with competent leadership.
