2020 Redraft Top 5

Long term center plan if I am building a team

You mentioned Byfield, so I gave my opinion on that individual.

Regarding Jarvis, he looked great in the playoffs, and is a similar player to Raymond, but on a better team. I consider them to be very similar players. However, Jarvis has shown to be a good player in the playoffs, so maybe some people may be favorable to him

I’m not a fan of Laf, but he had a good even strength year. He also scored 28 goals shooting 12.8%, while Raymond shot 19% this year, which is incredibly unsustainable. Lafs playoff this year has been very strong, and again, that’s something Raymond can’t compare to. Again, I’m not a fan, but I get the argument.

Raymond is a winger who is relatively one dimensional and while he had a great year, hasn’t set the league on fire to the point where he is a clear top pick in a redraft. Also, his year looks to be a bit of a luck year, shooting 19% is crazy

I expect him to climb next year with increased PP time

lol, Raymond is anything but one dimensional. He’s a dog along the boards and is so solid defensively he’s used on the PK and during the dying minutes of a close win.

Really? Mercer was very good up to this season but took a step back this season.\ Think Stutzle took a step back as well. Lafreniere and Byfield took a big step forward.
I will give you my top 10
Sanderson (+4) Stud- holding him back from staying #1 is he isn't an elite points producer
Lafreniere (-1) Think a year from now he will be back to #1
Byfield (-1)
Stutzle (-1)
Jarvis (+7)
Faber (+39) ** just editted because didn't notice him on the list of drafted players from that year
Raymond (-3)
Mercer (+10)
Lundell (+3)
Foerster (+13)
Next 11-20-
Quinn ( injuries dropped him otherwise would be in 7/8 range)
Guehle, Holloway, Schneider, Lapierre, Chinakov, Perfetti, Zary, Barron, Bourque

I’d probably go

Stutzle
Sanderson
Byfield
Jarvis
Faber
Lafreniere
Raymond

As my top 7 and I can see some fluctuation in there.

Too early to move up as it stands but I’m really high on Chinakov.
Raymond still at 7 in your ranking?

1 Stutzle
2 Byfield
3 Sanderson
4 Faber
5 Lafreniere

Lots of great players in this draft, any way you rank it.
Just curious, you keeping the rankings the same way as you had it before the season?

rossi rising back up
Very much so. 44 points in 50 gp. Plays nothing but C, and is decent at FO's(48%) for a young player. Had a slow start due to health, then had to really work on his strength and skating, but looks to have things figured out now. His hockey IQ is really high, as is his work ethic, and ability to get on the scoresheet. Nothing spectacular, but just finds a way to be in on scoring.

Needs to string together more years of production, but i see no reason to believe that he is a flash in the pan. He's a worker.

I don’t know why other people’s opinions matter so much to Wings fans in this thread, but not currently, no. Most of the others stagnated or took a step back this year while Raymond has taken a step forward. But I still think it’s early enough where a lot can change moving forward. As I mentioned going into the year, I think there’s been room for fluctuation in the rankings, and I wouldn’t have argued with Raymond being higher.

It's a little petty, yeah... But the people who were insisting he wouldn't go Top 5 as recently as a month ago also kinda look like clowns, so it's deserved, too.
Sure but it's also not allowed, I could dig up old polls that had Jack Hughes plus Nico Hischier vs Alexis Lafreniere alone that Laf won easily but I don't do it.

Raymond has been great this year, it's been awesome to see his progression as he's added muscle. He's transformed into a guy who is really hard to knock off the puck - I did not expect him to fill out to nearly 190 lbs - visibly he looks closer to 6'0 now too (he was 5'11 170 in his draft year). Both him and Stutlze appear to be somewhat late bloomers in terms of physical maturity. Stutzle was like 5'10 165 before his draft year if I recall.

But Raymond's his all situations shooting percentage of 14.3% is likely unsustainable - it's up 16% from his previous career high and up 30% from his career average coming into this season.

That, and his 19-20% individual shooting percentage is likely too high.

That's not to say his current point totals are undeserved, but I think he's probably more of a 70-85 point 2 way winger than a 85-100 point guy.

He put on something like 12 pounds in the 2023 offseason and it showed pretty much immediately. First half of 23-24 you could tell he was harder to push off the puck and I think that period was really him learning how to play with his newfound strength on the puck.

Then the last half of the season he just took off. Larkin got hurt, the rest of the team sucked, and that's when you really noticed the breakout of Raymond going from a nice winger to a guy who could just say "f*** it, I'll do it myself".

Worth noting his shooting percentage is actually down from last season. He just has an absurd shot, and he's incredibly good at changing angles and drawing defensemen either into a screen on their own goalie or away from another forward to open a passing lane.

This has to be getting pretty close to lock, it's nothing more than a Red Wing fan calling out people for underrating Raymond
Calling out? This is a discussion board, and I politely asked people if their rankings have changed. I didn't use any profanity, didn't troll, didn't make fun of anyone, I simply asked people if their rankings have changed.

It's a message board, where you know, people have discussions...
