Why? I would hope the goal is to make another cup run. That is a rebuild move. Klingberg trade better have a Star 1C coming back if he gets traded. He has too much value.
Could care less what we get in return. Heiskanen takes over 1D and Harley joins big club to fill the roster spot.
We need a pretty large re-tool season after next anyway. All the tread will be worn off our expensive tires and this is a good place to start to transition. Klingberg hits UFA a year after we pay Heiskanen big bucks and there’s no way in hell we can afford Klingberg on the re-up.
We have to maximize value on an asset for once to jump-start this transition. Benn, Radulov, Seguin, Pavelski, Bishop, etc are all on the down-trend. Not to mention Seguin trashed his body to play sub-par in a Stanley cup playoff that we didn’t win. He’s not going to be the same for awhile if ever.
If there’s no plan to start mitigating that then we’d better pray that Dellandrea, Robertson, Harley, and Bourque all pan out or we’re f***ed.
