Prospect Info: 2020 NHL Draft 103rd Overall Pick, Dylan Garand, G

The difference is we knew Hank would be nearing the end by the time Igor would be in the league. Igor’s career is just starting and he’s looked really good in the time we’ve seen him play. We can expect Igor to last 10 years at least, so what do you do in 5 years when the guy is ready to play and we have Igor locked up long term for big money?

Georgiev will be traded in a few years ... Huska , Wall, Lindbom locks to backup ?

May need a ufa vet for a few years then this kid drafted may step in

Goalie picks are boring but you just expect them to never take a goalie again? Rangers have a pretty good track record with them overall so can we just not whine about them using their 5th pick in the draft on one?
That is a fallacy. Lundqvist and Shesty are the only ones that we've hit on in years.

Oh, only a hall of famer and one of the best young goalies in the game?

All of the failed goalie picks aren't any different from any other position. Once you start getting to the 3rd round most of them won't amount to anything at the NHL level. It's the same thing for every position.

That's the point. He has the position long term and decent backups are a dime a dozen. This kid will never play a game for us.

from DraftAnalyst report:
"An athletic netminder who is developing a reputation as one of the WHL’s best at stopping the puck, Garand was second
only to Everett’s Dustin Wolf in both goals-against average and save percentage among goalies with at least 30 starts."

I'm glad to see that he is good at stopping the puck. That should come in handy.

Take one in the sixth or seventh. Sign an UDFA from college.

Yeah it's "just the fourth round" and "most don't make it" but there are still interesting players out there. Look at the market now, goalies have little value and are a dime a dozen. It's not a pressing organizational need, either. Yeah, that could change, but Zibanejad's knee could explode and Chytil could bust and then we would have no f***ing centers.

I'm cool with stockpiling goalies. At the end of the draft and in free agency.

One difference is that wingers actually have trade value. Goalies not so much.

Backup goalies don't, I agree. Potential young #1s do. Which obviously isn't to say that this kid will become that, but I think it's just as likely that he becomes that or a useful backup on an ELC in a few years as it is a 4th round LW becoming anything useful on the team or someone with trade values.

Both are very unlikely.

Schneider, Andersen, Martin Jones, Varlamov all traded for first round picks

we traded talbot for 2/3/5 and used raanta to get Tony D and 7

youre just making things up bc you’re butthurt about the pick
Those trades happened awhile ago. The value of goalies drops with each passing year. The market is flooded with them right now.
