Assuming everyone is available, I’d like to see something around this:

Lafreniere-Veleno-Dach
Fortier-Hayton-Noel
Newhook-Krebs-Cozens
Foudy-Dellandrea-Thomas
Tomasino/Groulx

Smith-Dobson
Byram-JBD
McIsaac-Woo
Addison/Bahl

Ellis
Jones
Gravel

That’s a fantastic team in terms of depth and top star power. Has to be the gold medal favourites.

I like your line up - but not your lines.

I like your line up - but not your lines.
How would you construct them?

Lafreniere and Dach gelled very well at last year’s Hlinka. They’re future superstars who can break a game open. I think Veleno is the clear choice to centre them; he’s fast, provides the defensive conscience, and obviously has his own offensive talent in spades. This will almost certainly be the best line in the tournament.

Fortier, Hayton, and Noel provide a little of everything and a balanced attack. The former possess strong two-way games and loads of finesse, while Noel excels at puck possession and can open up space for his linemates. All are good to great skaters, and TC loves it’s 19 year olds. To me, it makes sense to put these three together...

...because I want to see a reunion of our top line at the U18s. Even with a below-expectations performance from Cozens, Newhook-Krebs-Cozens was dominant in every zone every time they stepped over the boards. So much speed, so much skill, and both guys on the wings can shoot absolute lasers. I could see this line becoming the de-facto “second line”, although I suspect we’ll see fairly balanced ice times between the top three groups.

The ability to maintain offence continues down to our fourth line. Foudy is a one-man forecheck and ruins teams with his speed alone. Dellandrea is strong positionally and in his own end, but has great offensive instincts and skills, too. Thomas has improved his two-way game a lot and produces outstanding numbers everywhere he goes.

The d-pairs really fall into place by themselves IMO.

Just my 2 cents: Veleno barely played at the tourney last year and you have him #1C? Dach is good, but as a 1st year player he will be way down the lineup. Delandria will play higher, probably Foudy too. My vote is Hayton #1C.
I think there will be a few more 2000 and less 2001, but we’ll have to see how the start of the season goes.

Hayton definitely has to be #1C. He was our 2nd best center in Vancouver after Glass, and has the hockey sense to elevate his linemates, and definitely trustworthy enough in his own zone. I thought Arizona had reached when they took him so high but his play changed my mind. The only way he's not our #1C is if he's in the NHL and not made available.

I like your team and your lines.

I prefer Lavoie over Noel and Harley over McIsaac..

and I'd love to see Newhook where you have him...but it's Hockey Canada we are talking about here, so, it will probably be Nolan Foote there.

Harley to me is redundant if all of those defenceman are made available to Canada; there are an awful lot of puck movers and offensive types on that back end even without Harley. McIsaac is a 19 year old returning player who has played at every level for Canada and can play a more defensive and physical style, which some others don't bring (he's also pretty decent offensively). He'd fit well on a defensive-oriented pair with Bahl or Woo IMO, but I'd prefer Woo on big ice. The only concern for me will be his readiness for the tournament due to his injury.

Exactly my thoughts!

Good points.

Lafreniere-Hayton-Thomas would be a nice top line come December.

Don’t see McIsaac playing...that’s around the time of his recovery being over from Labrum surgery

Conservative estimate is he will be back by the first week of November, plenty of time to get into game shape and still make the team. As a returning player who is 19yo one would think he’ll be given every opportunity.
I'm kind of cautious after what happened with JAD last year though; he was good but wasn't quite ready. Hopefully everyone at the selection camp will have played at least some games in their respective leagues this time around.

That would be ideal, yes. If McIsaac doesn’t get in at least 3 weeks worth of games before the tournament, I leave him at home if I’m Hunter.

Everything I’ve seen here says beginning of December...and don’t be shocked if Detroit says hell no

Krebs - Hayton - Lafrenière
Thomas - Veleno - Dach
Fortier - Newhook - Lavoie
Foudy - Suzuki - Noel
Tomasino - Foote

Byram - Dobson
Smith - Woo
Harley - BernardDocker
McIsaac - Bahl

Ellis
Jones
Rodrigue

Hayton definitely the first center on this team , with a very dynamic player inn Lafrenière . I start Krebs on the first , good complement player but he could en up on the fourth line it's is doesn't work . Veleno is my two way center , great vision and great speed with Dach and Thomas . Fortier is very underrated and with the speed of Newhook and skills shot of Lavoie , this line could be very dominant on the rush . Noel is a lock-in , foote is a HC type player , Tomasino had a pretty good speed and can play on the PK , Suzuki is a nice second scoring touch and Foudy will play on the PK. I really think that Samuel Poulin is a better 4th center than Suzuki but he is not on the radar yet

Byram-Dobson-Smith is a great big 3 . Woo-Harley-BernardDocker had the tools to play good minute .

It's not looking good for Hayton being on this team either, with Arizona letting Cousins go to ply his trade with the Habs it seems most Yote fans feel like it is a clear signal a decision has been made to have Hayton slide into the lineup next season.

Think we can likely cross him off our lineup projections.

I'm good with Dach as #1Center A and Veleno #1Center B . Move up Noel and include Poulin in this lineup

Sounds o.k, however there is some decent amount of chatter saying Veleno could be a wing too next year. I didn't want to be overly negative and bring it up in my last post but I guess I may as well mention it now.

Don’t think that move makes this true at all. Cousins is basically lineup filler, and Arizona recently traded for Soderberg, who only plays C.

Most Yotes fans I’ve encountered think that Hayton will play wherever his training camp performance dictates he will play. If he is lights out in camp, he’ll make the team. If he’s not ready at camp, he’ll play in the OHL and the Yotes C depth will look like:

Dvorak
Stepan
Soderberg
Richardson

There is also Schmaltz who can play C as well, but is more likely to occupy a wing spot on the top line.

I hope you're right, it's not what I have been hearing. We need Hayton IMO.
