WJC: 2020 Canada Roster Talk

That's unfortunate about Pelletier. I don't think that he would have made the team but you never know. He'll have a great shot to make the team next year, even if Canada is strangely loaded at LW.

Connor Zary will be taking Pelletier’s spot at camp. I was hoping it’d be him or Rees.
 
Just FYI...

Leddy is injured and out for a while (minimum 4-6 weeks for now and could be an ACL tear), I don't think Dobson will be released to Canada for the WJC now. Unless the team decides that someone like Sebastian Aho (the Isles d-man) is more suited to play LD and replace Leddy long term, the door has opened for Dobson to play regularly.

I know that's a big blow for the weak RD group of the team.
 
Probably no Dobson, no Pelletier, possibly no Hayton are all big blows.

I think Zary has a case to make the team based on his play.

Chayka told Craig Morgan of The Athletic that no decision has been made on Hayton.
 
Im fully expecting to not see any of the following 3 -
Hayton
Dach
Dobson

Too bad but to stay positive it should open up a few spots for guys like Zary, Foote, Byfield and Krebs to make the team at forward and no Dobson probably means we see Drysdale on D.

Does anyone think Perfetti will make it?
I think Byfield and Drysdale do from the 03's but not Perfetti
 
lines aren't matched up great but thats my early guess on the roster.
The speed on that 2nd line is unreal. Byfield on 2nd line might be pushing it but hes real good.

Lafreniere / Veleno / Thomas
Foudy /Byfield / Cozens
Zary / McMichael / Lavoie
Groulx / Dellandra / Mercer


Smith / Bernard-Docker
Bahl / Drysdale
Byram / Harley

NHL players or not, I fully expect to see Byfield on the team. He's played his way on with the season and Canada/Russia series he has had.

I could see Lafreniere being Captain. From what I have seen he is a strong leader

Pretty unheard of to have a draft eligible as the captain in any year, but especially when theres at least one guy coming back from pro hockey, is a returning player and has worn the C for this age group in the past. I think Veleno is probably the front runner for captain right now but wouldnt be surprised if Dobson ends up back if he got it either obviously. I would bet on a guy like Ty Smith to get the C before Lafreniere did though.

Just gotta hold out hope for Dobson now

That's good about Veleno. He shouldn't dominate the tournament but he's a credible scoring line centre. Anyone else getting released is a bonus, though it seems unlikely. Only missing three players due to the NHL is better than usual, depending on your perspective.

From TSN's broadcast of the camp announcement it sounded like they might take some extra players to Europe and make cuts after an exhibition game or two. The USports games are part of the camp and we can expect some cuts after those games.

Better to take extras than to have to fly someone in on short notice and have them jetlagged for the round robin.

Any idea when the preliminary games are? Can't find that info anywhere
