A lot can happen with a teenager in the NHL and it was only 1 game, but he sure looked like he belonged. Could still go either way but my opinion is that he will stay with the Coyotes.

I think Byfield is making an argument to make the team. It's not like because he's a younger player that physicality should be an issue, he's an absolute beast. I think he at least gets an extended look in camp.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Merkley make the team. His coach/GM in London are the coach/GM for Team Canada (Dale and Mark Hunter).

I fail to see who he would knock out of the team. I would hope the Hunters are above taking someone that doesn't deserve it because they play for them.

Smith,Byram,Bernard-Docker,Woo,Harley,Robertson.

That's 6 off the top of my head. Add in McIsaac if he is healthy. Bahl. Along with the younger options in Barron or Drysdale. Merkley just doesn't have a deserved spot among that group.

He's not a lock but it's not like those guys are all way above him if he shows he has changed his ways since moving to London. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the mix. Where other management teams would immediately rule him out, I could see the Hunters giving him a shot if he has corrected some of the warts in his play with the Knights.

Naw, there's too many options who are actually capable of playing defense. Bouchard's incompetence in his own end was a major reason for our demise last year and I don't see the braintrust wanting to bring in an even bigger defensive liability. We'd be one injury away from him having to take a regular shift and I'm not comfortable with that risk. Add in the poor attitude and it's an easy decision. Representing one's country is a huge privilege and he hasn't come close to earning it.

Veleno played 4 years of junior due to his exceptional status, which allows the player to play in the AHL under the CHL/NHL transfer agreement. He will be in the AHL all year if he isn’t called up to the Wings.
Do you know what they consider a "year" in the chl?
Dach played 19 games as a 15 year old. I wonder if that will qualify?

It absolutely would not qualify. WHL has players drafted at 15 so the players are able to get a handful of games in. It has to be 4 full time seasons in the CHL.

Someone want to tell me what the hell happened to Canada's goaltending?

Two of the top three goaltenders of all time. The two most recent Hart trophy winning goaltenders.

When did we go from elite goaltending to below average? And what is being done about it?

How is Canada's goaltending below average? We have like 5 of the top 10 goalies in hockey and one of the best young goalies in the world in Hart.

I'm talking specifically about the WJC's, where our goaltending is almost always our weak link.

And Canada probably has 2 out of the top 10 goaltenders in the world in Price and Holtby not 5, at least according to HF: HFBoards Top 20 NHL Goaltenders

I did some projecting last night and Canada's left side looks much more crowded on both defence and wing, especially if McIsaac is available. I'm looking forward to seeing the super series rosters any day now.

I am sure hoping for a better showing from our guys this year, none of the leagues played all that well against the Russians last year.

I don't care how the teams do, but I do want to see some individual players stand out. Last year was very mediocre for everyone. I'm curious to see how Byfield looks in particular.

It seems like that may be a possibility as he recently started skating again.
(WJC, not SS)

That's good. It's always risky when someone comes back from an injury right before a tournament and gets picked. Krebs is one potential case of that this year, as is McIsaac.
