Limited upside. I don't like drafting safe picks with limited offensive upside as early as the 2nd round.

I prefer a "low upside" who can play at NHL level than a high upside who never reach the NHL. you need all kind of tools to make a hockey TEAM, not only screwdrivers or hammers.

30 points in 47 for a guy that didn't appear to play up the lineup isn't bad. Likely projects to 50-60 points in a rookie season in the CHL. I've read his skating is fine, but size and grit are welcomed. If he can use those elements on a line with skill players all the better.

Alex played on a much deeper NDTP team in his draft year. They had Eichel, Milano, Tuch, Larkin. Tuch definitely benefited from playing with Eichel and Milano. When you look at where Luke fell in the stats on his club, it's not out of line imo.

Luke's going to a strong program.

We'll see. 2008, 2006, 2015, 2014 are brutal but they also lacked the number of picks we currently got.

Idk the player, so we'll see how he develops, but I hope he's not one of those "he's a gifted athlete" pick, one that supposedly has all the tools but is average* in playing the sport of hockey.

*When I say average, I mean obviously at that level. The guy is obviously far better than I'll ever be at hockey lol.

This was the year to pull a tank, not make the playoffs. The Pens, the Sens.. they know how to tank. This team will never improve drafting at 15, and that includes smurf Caufield.

Guhle was ranked above where selected. He's not some slow-footed meat head. He's a fabulous skater.
Tuch was ranked at 40. Neither he nor Alex are offensive drivers, but Alex got to play with two fabulous players in Eichel and Milano. Luke wasn't as lucky.
Mysak was ranked as a very early second to end of first. His production before injury as a raw rookie was fantastic.

I'll agree that it's not awful or anything but like I said in another post, I'd rather get the talent first. Then we can trade for the size/grit we lack. But that's just a personal preference.

Well shit tell that to Covid... we were far from making the playoffs prior to that. Can't tell your players to intentionally lose to jump a couple draft positions.

Rangers did a great job rebuilding, but got super lucky too. Sens got lucky with that San Jose pick but they'll take it.
How is it going in Buffalo, Detroit, Arizona, etc.?

We have a lot of picks and will have lots of young players in the pipeline. Now it's up to them and Montreal to work together to become better

Nothing exciting but three solid picks. Drafting 8 ranks later in each round because of the "Playoffs", is not helping the cause.
