Carter needs to be pushed all the way down the lineup

It's time for Carts to hang em up. Don't know if he'll get dealt at the deadline, but man he's just not getting it done. Thank you for your time as a King will never forget your cup run with us, but it's just not working at the moment. Not much else you can say about JC.

Yeah he might be the worst player in the NHL at the moment. Just completely uninspired play. Push puck forward or towards net blindly, rinse repeat. I don't like that he has an assumed lineup spot at this point. Might as well be playing Luff really.

Soft. No swagger. No confidence.

All about the power play.

Nice base being formed of non-scoring threats that buzz a bit in the offensive zone but still lacking finishers. That's where these highly touted prospects and our GM come into play.

Absolutely, it's just uncanny at this point

I don't care if it's actual performance or voodoo rabbits foot bullshit, the guy just racks up Ls
weren't we, 12 months ago or something, saying exactly the opposite, that the team played better with mac in? he's the same player, if not better. mac, in limited minutes, didn't cost a goal, had a takeaway on the PK and a few blocked shots

can we maybe blame some other common thread, like the gutless vets (doughty -3 with some atrocious giveaways btw), instead of the low hanging fruit? i guess its all "what have you done for me lately" around here

had every opportunity to make it 2-2 game, couldn't get it done. ain't gonna win shit if you can't bury the occasional grade A

Top 6 needs a major upgrade/retooling/rebuild whatever you want to call it.

For what it's worth, there was a bit of a shake up tonight:

Kempe - Kopitar - Athanasiou
Iafallo - Anderson-Dolan - Brown
Moore - Vilardi - Carter
Wagner - Lizotte - Andersson

Not much, but... a bit.

whos wife did tonka F***?

The line with JAD and Moore were a 4th line playing like a 2nd line and were getting rewarded with minutes. TM broke them up and JAD and Moore havent scored since, all the lines suck and somehow Tonka gets to sit in the press box for the last week?

I was very supportive of Carter after that injury, in that he deserved time to properly recover before being judged, which I stand by. Unfortunately though, he permanently lost a step and apart from a handful of games at the start of the season he’s been pretty poor this year. However the last 10 games he’s been absolutely terrible. I’m a big fan of the guy, I really am, but he’s done.

They have to make him a healthy scratch and perhaps they get a reaction, but I don’t think there’s anything left to get that from him. They should waive him in all reality (or give him the option to retire) but I just don’t see anything like that happening until the off season. I personally hope he chooses to retire and go out on his own terms because he’s running the risk of tarnishing his legacy.

The problem with MacDermid being in the lineup is that you only play him 10-11 minutes. That means you either rotate the other 5 and mess up the pairs, or his partner doesn’t play many minutes either and you over play Doughty. It also means that when he’s out there they seem to struggle more with zone exits. On top of it, he didn’t bring all that much last night in terms of grit or anything anyway, so where’s the pay-off in playing him?

It’s not the reason we lost, but it’s a factor affecting the teams overall play. There are other problems obviously, but we need to start by dressing something close to 6 NHL caliber defensemen. Toby can’t get back quick enough and I’d much rather of had Clague dress instead of him as he moves the puck far better.

Carter fifth in ice time last night, behind Kopitar, Iafallo, Brown and Kempe.

Yes, the bigger problem is obviously the offense and the other 4-5 things I talked about across several posts.

Holy... he's getting blamed and scapegoated even when he's not on the ice for a goal against?

Where did I blame/scapegoat him? It's literally just a factual observation, is it not? Are we not allowed to talk about Kurtis Macdermid at all? What is with the fanaticism for this guy?

Okay, if I'm going to take heat for just making a simple note--f*** it. Might as well earn it. MacDermid only being 'capable' of handling 11 minutes means Drew plays almost 30 and the d-pairings are absolutely f***ed all game with four righties and one lefty. That's a factor in the breakouts, which is a factor in the offense, which is a factor in the stupid puckhandling all over the ice.

Like I said, at some point, you have to stop making excuses for what happens throughout the lineup when MacD is in. It's like JMFJ's minuses at this point, the guy could be in the locker room changing and he'll get a dash somehow.

This lineup as a whole isn't good enough to absorb Kurtis Macdermid even when it's playing well; when it's a shitshow like it has been in large part vs. SJS especially over the last little stretch, it's only emphasized.

Yes, we have much bigger problems right now, like an absent offense, the on-ice death of Jeff Carter, a continued inability to figure out the worst regular starter in the league, line chemistry. That doesn't mean Kurtis isn't one of them especially when the end result speaks for itself. I like the guy, I'm rooting for him, I was one who said the team plays bigger with him in the lineup, and as a whole, for HIS part, he was good last night--but that ripple effect throughout the lineup didn't help us last night. With Clague available, it was bad roster management, 11 minutes isn't enough. I'm not myopic enough to pin last night solely on Macdermid, but you guys are kidding yourselves to pretend he's not a factor, either. Simply 'existing' isn't good enough otherwise we'd be praising the everliving shit out of Trevor Moore for his CF% and scoring chance numbers last night but we're not--why? Because the expectation isnt' merely "be an NHLer capable of hanging for minimal minutes."

There's a handful of posters here who seem to either feel that 1. Macdermid is beyond reproach or 2. that those of us critical of him can't also be upset with many other things about this team. 1 would be stupid, 2 would be insulting to those of us who can walk and chew gum at the same time. It's not like we believe MacD is a problem to the exclusivity of any other team issue. I literally just mentioned him in passing and three of you who I have regular positive interactions with just went apeshit with snark. Chill.

One scoring line team whose scoring line consistently dries up for long stretches.
And Brown and Yafallo on the 1st line doesn't do it,what a waste of Kopi's last years, hell its been a waste for Kopi to play with those aforementioned slugs at any point in time
