so since 2020-21 seems kinda f***ed in that we don't actually know when most of our guys are starting up, though the QMJHL is back to playing again, and we're probably done signing prospects, I figure this is as good a time as any to do this.

The one question remains before people send in their lists: should we have goalies as part of the top 20, or should we have a separate list for goalies since given the volatility of the position we might as well just hire Baron Samedi.

Anyway, eligible prospects come down to are they eligible for the Calder by age (25 and under) and by HF's old prospect distinction (65 or fewer NHL games played for skaters, 45 for goalies). So here's who's eligible with when and how they were acquired:

D Jake Bean - 1st rd 2016 - 13 OA
C Clark Bishop - 5th rd 2014 - 127 OA
W Dominik Bokk - 1st rd 2018 - 25 OA by St Louis - acquired in Faulk trade

D Dominick Fensore - 3rd rd 2019 - 90 OA
C Morgan Geekie - 3rd rd 2017 - 67 OA

One thing I found in tabulating this, we do a hell of a job of coming to tiers in lists with our group voting. 2 Skaters finished with all 14 first place votes, and were only separated by 4 points in the end result. Also there were 9 "consensus" skaters that appeared on every list, and 3 more that might as well have been since they were only missing from 1 or 2 lists at most.

Also we all clearly agree that our goalie situation is f***ing voodoo since every one of the top 4 received a vote as the highest at the position.

Skaters: (scoring went 15 points 1st - 1 point 15th)
1: C Seth Jarvis - 197 points (10 FP votes)
2: D Jake Bean - 193 points (4 FP votes)
3: C Ryan Suzuki - 168 points
4: C Jamieson Rees - 160 points
5: C Morgan Geekie - 150 points
6: W Dominik Bokk - 142 points
7: C Jack Drury - 116 points
8: W Noel Gunler - 102 points
9: D Jesper Sellgren - 88 points
10: D Joey Keane - 87 points
11: C Vasiliy Ponomaryov - 75 points
12: W Patrik Puistola - 56 points
13: D Anttoni Honka - 44 points
14: C David Cotton - 17 points
15T: D Ronan Seeley - 11 points
15T: D Alexander "Boom" Nikishin - 11 points
17: C Stelio Mattheos - 10 points
18T: W Tuukka Tieksola - 9 points
18T: C Steven Lorentz - 9 points
20: D Dominick Fensore - 8 points
21T: C Blake Murray - 6 points
21T: W Alexander Pashin - 6 points
23: C Clark Bishop - 5 points
24T: W Zion Nybeck - 3 points
24T: D Roland McKeown - 3 points
26: D Oliwer Kaski - 2 points
mentioned as HMs: Kevin Wall, Jeremy Bracco, Spencer Smallman

Goalies: (scoring went 4 points 1st - 1 point 4th)
1: Pyotr Kochetkov - 39 points (7 FP)
2: Alex Nedeljkovic - 32 points (1 FP)
3: Eetu Makiniemi - 28 points (3 FP)
4: Jack LaFontaine - 19 points (1 FP)
5: Jake Kucharski - 2 points

will work on profiles throughout the rest of the weekend

So looks like it's official at this point

let's go top 15 skaters and top 4 goalies. Or if anyone wants to submit the list in the old combined style feel free to do a top 20, I'll take votes either way but the final list will be in the skaters list goalie list fashion.

OK so going to keep voting open for 2 weeks and start tabulating and releasing results Thanksgiving weekend. I've already received a couple ballots in so far. And just a reminder that I'm taking either format, top 20 overall or top 15 skaters/top 4 goalies.

Send via PM when you're ready to send.

Sent mine an hour ago. I remember doing more research last year and now just winging it.

What I found interesting was that I took one of the shared lists and started grouping it into tiers. There were some names I hadn't heard of / didn't think much of. Ended up with 4 tiers. All of the first three tiers accidentally had five players so it was easy to choose the top 15.

This year I felt like I had to leave quite decent prospects out of top 15. Some high floor guys I think make top 15 for many other teams + plenty of boom or bust prospects. I think multiple guys outside of 15 will make the team next 3-4 years. I also think one of the boom busters will become top 9 forward / strong 5D.

5 more received today, starting the tabulation tonight and will release the list starting tomorrow morning. I'll do the list all at once and take my time on some of the profiles.

Going to go ahead and release mine publicly before the final results are tabulated to have some transparency here:

1 - Seth Jarvis (I had him top 10 going in to this draft, Bean's won me over, but Jarvis has the potential to be a Point level player. 10 times out of 10 I take that over a top 4 dman)
2 - Jake Bean
3 - Ryan Suzuki
4 - Jamieson Rees (call me a believer, but the kid is the real deal, a pest with 60+ point potential)
5 - Morgan Geekie (I mean he's GOING to be an NHLer, only question is how good)
6- Dominik Bokk
7 - Noel Gunler
8 - Jack Drury
9 - Jesper Sellgren
10 - Joey Keane
11 - Patrik Puistola
12 - Vasiliy Ponomaryov
13 - Anttoni Honka
14 - Ronan Seeley (I had him rated as a 2nd/3rd rounder, I won't back off that just because we landed him in the 7th)
15 - David Cotton
hms: Lorentz, Stelio, D-Fens, Nybeck, "Boom"

1 - Pyotr Kochetkov
2 - Alex Nedeljkovic
3 - Eetu Makiniemi
4 - Jack LaFontaine
5 - Jake Kucharski

rising but not included: Murray, Wall
surprising omission: Bishop - I'm still a believer. He's legitimately an NHL caliber guy as a 4th liner, but I think that's where he tops out.

You guys are correct on Seeley--kinda. I had him ranked as the second D prospect after Bean--7th overall. One spot ahead of Sellgren and Keene. iirc.

Rees I am not sold on--as several others have discussed, hockey is finally evolving like the other major sports. One of the biggest parts of that evolution will be discipline. In the NBA in 2000 there were 25 players with 250 personal fouls, that number was 4 in 17/18 and 7 in 18/19. As skill increases, infracti0ns decrease. Rees will need to become more disciplined to make it in the game that will be played in 2025.
