Housecleaning : The removal of unwanted or superfluous elements. "The owner's housecleaning cost a lot of people their jobs."

I don't know about a C. From 09-11, 16 of the Kings 21 draft picks saw NHL time. That's pretty insane, over 75%. Not many teams can match that.

Some pretty good players drafted in that time too - Schenn, Clifford, Toffoli have a ton of games. Then role players like Delauriers, Nolan, Dowd, etc.

And in the two drafts before that they got Doughty, Voynov, Simmonds, and Martinez. Hickey carved out a good career, and King made some big contributions to the cups.

Seems pretty damn successful to me.
I should have qualified that with "drafting in the first round".

I don't see Boko being an NHL regular. Hope he proves me wrong.

what was wrong with Lemieux is LA already as a plethora of bottom 6 players.

But we don’t have one that can respond to cheap shots by the other team. Just not having to start McD is worth the trade.

Yeah I agree there. Doughty and Schenn were great picks. Teubert was one of the worst picks in a good draft year. Forbort and Hickey were OK, mostly because their draft years weren't great overall. If those were good draft years it would have been a lot worse.

how often is that really a problem in the NHL now?

Just is not worth it IMO. refs are pretty good about catching cheap shots when they happen and kicking guys out of the game. Unless Lemieux is on the ice when said cheap shot happens he cannot do anything. Issue there is than he would have to be on the ice.

wait until the hive collective on this board finally realize TMac is a shitty coach. Will be nice to see the reality set in even though its taking longer than usual for others. I guess Tmac is well spoken and Willie D just seemed like a dolt thoroughly which is why people probably aren't fully aware of it yet.

I'm not a huge T-Mac fan but I'm waiting to shit on him if the results aren't there when the roster is better than what we are seeing.

I do not like how softness is tolerated but, then again, if he scratches a soft guy it is just another soft guy going in so its hard to really know if it is a T-Mac problem or a roster problem. Well actually, it is definitely the latter: I just don't know how much of the problem to put at T-Mac's feet yet.

TM might not be the best fit for the Kings, but shitty coaches don’t have his kind of record. I figure he will be evaluated as the team grows and if they underperform, he will be replaced.

Not worried too much about who they draft. DL basically got no skill in the draft. He traded for most of what he didn't inherit. More than one way to get the board battle guys.

A lot of teams in the division have figured out the 1-3-1 against us. Almost every entry is a intentional dump in, its very rare that a team enters with possession against us. The problem comes from the intentional dump in as the opposition wingers are entering with speed and creating a contest at the boards before the D man gets a chance to move the puck. Unfortunately we just don't have the talent at the moment to make the quick decisions and passing needed to make it work. It would look glorious if a team like VGK got the dump ins we get and the exited the zone quickly with their smooth passing.

Unfortunately I can’t see a coaching change coming as we have had far to many. Does Todd implement a modification to the system that does not work thus far or does Blake bring in players that can make it work? If so who?

Out of the UFA crowd Landeskog stands out up front. Plays a sandpaper game while racking up points. Would cost a small fortune to get him to LA

I have not been impressed with Blake’s coaching hires but I was willing to give Todd the Beni fit of the doubt. Just not liking what I have seen so far.

So when Fiala puts Roy through the wall or Stephenson cheap shots Toby, you don’t want a response from the Kings on one of their star players? Payback doesn’t just mean going after the ones that did the deed. You do payback on one of their top players. With MacD such a defensive liability and difficult to slot him in very often, we had no one that could be in the lineup to protect the team. I’m fine with Lemieux. He’s probably going to be in and out of lineup. I doubt that he’s holding anyone back. We need some of what he brings on the bottom six.

The Fiala hit on Roy was 100% accidental. You could tell how bad Fiala felt when that happened. What I would want there is for LA to take advantage of the 5 min pp.
It does not have to be a Lemieux or MacD who stands up for teammates. Anyone can.

it's most teams, just the way the game is played now.

If it is blowout and there is something really erroneous that happens a lot of guys can step up.

I think I was being more facetious with the comment as it wasn't true when Andy Murray said it about the Kings and its not true now.

Intelligent question, not sure which way he goes or if he goes with Best Player Available for the 1st round. I was excited to bring in TM because I at least felt we've done ok with SJ sloppy seconds but also because while I enjoyed the 2 cups, I want more of an offensive, uptempo game. I loved the LA Kings of the 80s 90s with Gretzky and remember what it was like to have the best offense in the league for a few weeks, although short lived. It was a fun brand of hockey, although D wins in the playoffs. I just want something more out of this next team identity. Stingy D is fun to shut down, but the brand gets boring when it's dump and chase or shoot from the perimeter.

Yup, but we're a bit soft. I felt we've been soft for years. Watching LA win before in the playoffs where you touch one and Penner and whoever else would just tackle you was fun. Then it all sort of disintegrated.

Yep. Honestly, I think TM is a good coach--but I don't think he's the right coach for this team and they aren't going any further with him. They've just brickwalled at the intersection of system vs. ability, sort of like the end of the Terry Murray days.

I just don't know how Blake could have a front row seat to watching the guy not be able to make a single adjustment to avoid losing 4 straight playoffs games after going up 3-0 and then say to himself: "This is the right coach". That wasn't just a "Well he'll learn from it" moment, it was one of the most historic choke jobs in all of sports for all time.

I think the criticism on Todd is fair but not like where LA is at is on him IMO. The effort has been shit more often than not.

For sure. In a vacuum i wouldn't be ready to shoot him out of a cannon yet, but given the history I can't even look at the guy without laughing about that choke. I can't even entertain the idea that he might be able to take us all the way. I hope I'm wrong.
