They're supposedly announcing more roster spots this week, so I wouldn't take the quietness as a sign of anything bad, just that they've been waiting for the first round of the playoffs to end so they can reach out to all available players before they announce the next wave together. Drury, unlike almost all of the past USAH general managers, seems to know what he's doing. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here. They still have 8 spots available.

Hopefully they can land a couple more big fish, especially on defense. I'd think the odds are pretty high they get at least one of Hanifin, McDonagh, or Schmidt. They really need at least 1-2 RHD and there's Carlson, Niskanen, Jensen, and Byfuglien available. They need to get one of them. I can't imagine Buff playing and Trouba's a RFA about to land a huge deal, so he's out.

On forward, they're already pretty loaded, but you'd have to think they'll land at least one more big time player with guys like Matthews, Gaudreau, Guentzel, etc. all available.

Guentzel have injury

You're probably thinking of this:

But missed this:

DeBrincat, Kreider and JVR all LWs - Guentzel and Johnny Hockey as well, I am sure someone can play their off wing, but not sure if that impacts Guentzel or Gaudreau knowing the amount of LWs we already have here. I would roll out the carpet for both, but just looking through their eyes and what role they might play. For the record, I would have Gaudreau as the top LW and Guentzel the third after Cat...

enticing eh???

I wonder how hard it is for some of these guys not to sign on when you get a group text message from guys like Kane, Eichel, and Larkin telling you to come play. And you know that's happening. It's why getting big time players to sign on early is so important.

Maybe they can do it for Jimmy this year. I like to see these guys added.

D
Carlson
Niskanen
Hanifin
McDonagh/Schmidt

Matthews
Gaudreau
Stastny
Hughes

Of course there is other guys too but i dont think there is any chance that Buff or Pacioretty would come.

especially Larkin, you know he is blowing up these guys phones, especially Matthews now lol...

Definite plus from your Nat'l Dev Team Prgm.

Guys played together, know each other or are friends.

Matthews, Eichel, Larkin, and Stastny up the middle with Hughes to boot! Oh baby!
that has a strong possibility of happening, Stastny seems like another guy who would do one more shot to play for the US especially playing on "second home soil" for him...I am no longer cautiously optimistic, let's win the whole f***ing thing!!!

Gaudreau seemed kind of disinterested last year, and when not disinterested he was taking dumb penalties. I hope he plays better this year if added.

If i remember right he had some family reasons why he almost declined. Maybe it was reason why he was like that. He wasnt bad last year either but i think he would be much better this year.

Yep, that was one big reason. His dad had a heart attack near the end of the NHL season. Johnny wasn't sure if he was going to play at the WC but his dad wanted him to play.

The other thing IIRC was Gaudreau had some injury scares in 2018 (but avoided serious injury) involving slashes on his hands. He had missed significant time in 2016 after having fingers broken from slashes. At last year's WC, he was getting slashed like crazy on his hands, the IIHF refs surprisingly weren't calling them, and thus he was frustrated and constantly rattled.

He'd need to be better in this year's tournament, but he's a no brainer on the team. The nice thing about how this team is shaping up is they'd be ok if a guy like Gaudreau had an "off" tournament. But in basically every other year, including last year, they've only hand a handful of high-end players if that, so even one of them being off in a game or two was the difference between a possible gold medal or no medal at all.

Somewhat curious about Jack Hughes...
Was there even a chance that he would have been able to join the roster or he's still to young for their liking?
He's had a great U18's so far...
