Kakko has good defensive instincts. Did a good job coming back and tying up the trailing forward. He also doesn't over panic and put himself out of position when his team is hemmed in.

I do see some of the Hossa/Kakko similarities.

Finland has quite the crop of top young forwards. Barkov, Rantanen, Aho, Laine, Terovainen, Kotkaniemi... hard to remember when they've had more depth.

It's been an impressive showing so far. Anyone think the Devils are thinking twice?
Everything Hughes has done has been fantastic as well. And he has been the presumptive number one in this class for a couple years. For that to change, you need a gamebreaker like Kakko to emerge but also for Hughes to underwhelm, which he hasn't done at all this year.

I'm sure the Devils probably look at Kakko and think he's fairly close to Hughes, but they know Hughes is the obvious choice and the one they must make.

EDIT: I personally would take Hughes number one, if we had that pick, and I think Kakko is phenomenal. But I don't want to go down that rabbit hole in this thread. :)

I think mayyyybe if Hughes looks invisible and really overwhelmed in this tournament it might make the Devils think twice, but they're still going to taking into account "future development and upside" and I think a lot of people see Hughes as having some room to grow physically and be better while Kakko is viewed as a more finished product physically (even if that's not really true).
