As much as I hate the Jones pick, I can't deny I really don't mind the rest of the Giants' draft.

CB should be locked up for the immediate future. Think Lawrence has the potential to be a stud despite having 2 other young DTs on the roster. And like the gamble on a deep play threat in Slayton.
The Darius Slayton pick is one of my favorites of the draft. They took only one offensive player in this draft (no typo ;) ) and they made it count

I wasn't the biggest fan of the Jones pick, but some of the stuff that people in the media are saying is not only wrong, but flat out irresponsible, to the point that I'm actually very uncomfortable with the whole situation, and think we need to take a step back and realize "it's just sports."

Max Kellerman, Stephen A Smith, Christ Carter, and the geek that's on his show with him accusing the Giants of being RACIST for not taking Haskins is so outlandish and insane. I'm really uncomfortable with where people are going with this. It's incredibly toxic, and I feel really sorry for the kid.

That being said, I've made peace with the pick. It seems like a lot of people who went back and really watched him thought he actually looks like he has a lot of potential, and that he really carried Duke on his back. I hope he proves all of us wrong over the next 10 years.

Gettleman claims 2 teams would have taken Jones before 17. He can't name them. The other teams say no.

The pick still sux, but to make claims of racism, when there's only evidence of incompetence, is just asinine. Give any idiot a platform & this is the result. To further the point, I read somewhere that Steve Smith (former panthers WR) proved what a moron he is by claiming Josh Rosen wasn't a man because he didn't stay in Arizona & battle Kyler Murray for the #1 QB job. :help: As if Rosen had any say in that decision. :eyeroll:

Gettleman got duped by the league. Old man "knew for a fact" two other teams wanted Jones, except Broncos confirmed they didn't, and people say Dan Snyder wanted Haskins which they got. Denver did want Lock but they could wait until the next round which they did. That's Gettleman's problem right there, he had plenty of time to wait but instead he lost an elite prospect like Josh Allen.

Obviously the 'other' issue is Jones isn't anything special, somebody keep this guy away from the Senior Bowl

This is a good summary of what happened. The Skins took Haskins at 15 so it's not possible that 2 teams would have taken Jones before 17.

I can totally picture all the other GMs conspiring to get Gettleman to pick Jones for the lols.

Pretty epic prank, really.

Maybe the Broncos did want him and that's why they traded back?
I don't mind Jones. I figured the Redskins were gonna trade into the top 5 and take Haskins, we take a D-end and draft Jones at 17.
And didn't Gettleman draft Newton? Don't see him being racist.

So we’re they racist when they passed on darnold Rosen and Allen to take a black running back when they desperately needed a qb because he was the best player in the draft and they absolutely fell in love with him or did the racism just start now? That is a disgrace.
Running back doesn't play into it, this is an issue that came up even before the draft you heard people talking about Gettleman is an school type of GM that would not hire a black QB as the face of the franchise. Blatently passing on Haskins and then picking a Howdy Doody Eli clone did not nothing to counter that notion

Gettleman without a doubt thinks he’s the smartest man in every room, and definitely is not 99% of the time. He’s the only one who doesn’t know it.

It’s very appropriate for the climate today. Maybe he can become a cabinet member next.

Gettleman engaging in transparently dumb moves kills me but his arrogance and eagerness to share these aloof, doofus quotables about them seals the deal.

The redskins were all in on Haskins. They must have known the Giants were going to pass on him. If the broncos really wanted jones there was at least one team willing to trade down so they couldn't have wanted him that badly.

Two teams in the top 5 made it clearly known they were willing to move down; the Jets & the Raiders. Would the Raiders do business with Denver, that's unclear, but the Jets would've had no issue.

Gettleman is a moron & a lousy poker player, plain & simple. Think about the off-season he's had. Trades away a top 5 WR for a safety, a mid first rounder & basically a 4th round pick. Uses that mid first round pick to select a replacement for the run stuffing DT that he sent away during the season for a 5th rounder.

Then he really outsmarts the entire NFL by over drafting a QB prospect by 30-40 spots, who nobody else had going in the top 25, when he could've had a game-changing pass rusher this team hasn't had since JPP hurt his back in 2012. Then proceeds to use 5 picks on 3 CBs when the team desperately needs a RT. All of this on the heels of selecting a RB 2nd overall in the previous draft when choosing a QB was the obvious move. Bravo. :eyeroll:

You could have taken this guy in the 3rd round or even later. Its such an epic overreach. But we will get to see this act on the field sooner than later.

Lol its not that they don't want black players, its about the QB position and who they want to be the "face of the franchise"

No one arguing that Gettleman is a racist, its the idea that maybe ownership has a say on what kind of player they want to be their new face of the franchise.

What do you mean, I argued he was from the beginning

I don't think Mara cares. Haskins would be the "kind of player" the Giants want, but not the "kind of player" Gettleman wants

What are you basing this on? He drafted a black RB last year in lieu of a white franchise QB. :dunno:

I'm certainly not defending Gettleman's job performance, but to call him a racist seems far-fetched. Incompetent, absolutely, but a racist? Seems like sour grapes.

There were rumblings before the draft that a guy like Gettleman is "old school" and wouldn't trust a black quarterback. RB isn't QB

The Giants had Tiki Barber and Michael Strahan as the faces of the franchise for more than half a decade.

Yeah, I don't think the Giants care. Gettleman is the problem

The Jones pick seems more like Mara wanted an "Eli clone" as opposed to Gettleman refusing to draft Haskins.

Regardless, the entire organization is completely dysfunctional. With a few more years out of the playoffs, which is a a VERY strong possibility, they have become the pre-2018 Cleveland Browns. I can't see them being competitive before 2023. Time for another group of fans to buy some ad space on billboards & fly another plane over the stadium.
