great work. question, which defensemen were the best in "team rel GA impact"? are there any top D that are consistently in the negatives?

Pretty much everybody is in the positive. Only 3 of the 51 guys I looked at were in the negative over the sum of those 5 years were Olli Maatta, Jake Gardiner, and John Klingberg. Not a single one of them was in the negative in all 5 years.

not a fan of bringing Nyquist back, especially with Donskoi and at the 5.5-6m range. Id rather spend that money on a better shooter/ goal scoring threat. I feel Nyquist is too similar to Donskoi and LaBanc in terms of his skillset yet will comard double the cap hit to do pretty much the same thing

would lvoed to give Eberle that 5.5m a year deal, but here we are

Eberle would have been a really nice fit on the Kane-Hertl line given he skates well and is a shoot first guy. Could setup a lot of rebound chances and do a good job off the rush for his linemates. Would have been a solid complimentary piece. That said, good to see the market being set relatively low for a guy like him. Could bode well in our pursuit of a top 9 RW (although not sure that there are many/any guys out there in UFA that I really want to pay close to that money unless Hayes makes it out of Philly).

I doubt we would have anything they want, but the Jets are taking offers on Nikolaj Ehlers.

He was Timo Meier’s linemate in junior and would be a perfect fit with Meier and Couture. I know they need centers and LHD, and they want to clear cap space, so I might offer something like Brenden Dillon and Sasha Chmelevski. They probably wouldn’t do that, though.

Seattle doesn't have to make a decision on the 30 players they'll get via expansion draft for 2 years (and perhaps some days). Once they get a GM, they could start scouting.

First, Martin Jones is signed beyond expansion draft. Second, he has a MNTC, so will probably have to waive it to be exposed. Third, might require another asset from the Sharks to "convince" Seattle to take him. Fourth, who are you replacing him with?

DW will not have to ask anyone with a three team trade list to waive it to expose them for the expansion draft. The only people required to be protected are those with full NMC's to which only Vlasic has on this team currently.

braun/one of the chi-twins is more then we paid for karlsson and people want to pay that for an over paid forward?

I know the "more than the Sharks paid for Karlsson!" meme is a fun one and applies in a lot of cases, but it definitely doesn't apply here. Chekhovich and Chmelevski are only a little above Norris in terms of value and that's probably offset by the 2019 2nd round pick.

The rest of the Karlsson package was a 2020 1st, Chris Tierney, Dylan DeMelo, Rudolfs Balcers, and the conditional picks. That is worth a hell of a lot more than Justin Braun or Brenden Dillon.

braun even if he is hated here is better then all of tierney, demelo, balcers, and norris combined. he is still a top 5 defensemen at his worst and top 4 at his best. the rest shouldn't even be in the nhl at this point.

That is ridiculous. The combined value of those 4 players had immensely more value at the time of the trade than Braun currently does. You're also ignoring the 2020 1st round pick.

Comeon man. That is not remotely close to fair. At the time we made the trade, I would argue that Tierney and a small plus (Balcers/DeMelo) would have equivalent value of Braun today. Norris is basically a 1st round pick by himself.

ok slightly worse for ehlers then we gave for karlsson the best defensemen in the league and arguably the 3rd best player in the entire league (at worst top 5).

dillon i would do it, but not braun. but i am also skeptical of simek/heed/ryan being able to jump into the top 4 and play 20+ minutes a game next season which will be needed from 1 of ryan, simek, heed if braun is traded.

It's still not slightly worse. They're not even remotely comparable.

Beyond that, I can acknowledge that we got an absolute steal for Karlsson and that we don't have to do even better in a separate trade in order to make that trade worthwhile. There are probably 50 to 100 players in the league that I would trade the Karlsson package or a comparable package for lol.

I would love to do a Dell + for Reimer trade.

Reimer's got 2 year left at $3.4M. We'd be spending over $9M on Jones and Reimer for the next 2 years.

Like it or not, Simek and Ryan both have played in the top-4 already. I get your concern about Simek's second year. And I also understand the concern around Ryan because of how poorly he played in 18-19. But that is the advantage of having choices.

Also, being paired with Burns is a bonus because with him on the ice, all you really need to do is play 'stay at home' D.

I like Reimer, prefer him to Dell but it doesn't make much sense cap wise. Even if the Panthers retain 50%, we save only $200K.

I don't want the trade for saving $. But getting an option at strengthening the backup goalie position.

I don't know how Korenar/Bibeau will do in the NHL. And I have little confidence that Dell does any better than what he did last year.
