Pelletier out with an injury possibly opens up a spot for Fortier at Canada's selection camp

google translated:

I would not be surprised if Gabriel Fortier @DrakkardeBaieCo receives a phone call and is invited to the final ECJ camp to replace Jakob Pelletier. We'll see. #tvasports

It doesn't matter he won't make the team. He hasn't been bad this year but he hasn't been as good as you would've hoped. There's other players who should get the nod over him based off their play this year.

A big trade for the Bears went down today. I normally don't update on Bears only signings/trades, but this is significant.

The team captain and top pair/top 4 d-man Mike Monfredo traded to division rival Greenville for 6'5 goal scorer Johno May.

With a more mobile defense, Monfredo didn't necessarily fit, and OSB needs scoring as well as netfront presence. I don't really have a bunch of specific memories of May, other than him getting hurt in Orlando one time, but he was a significant offensive threat and can move for his size.

20 goals in the ECHL is a lot.

I see people on twitter like BP saying Foote has made the team.

There is still one forward cut to go, two if Dach gets released. It's not a sure thing, but I'd bank on him not being cut. HC loves him.

Zach Fucale appears headed back to the Spengler Cup this year.

He's the only Fucale on EP, nevermind a goalie.

Keep an eye on Cajkovic to see what happens after Saint John goes on break. He's missed the last 3 games and has battled injuries all season. Would be great to see him play for Slovakia if he can.

midway through the season, what's your top 10 prospect list looking like?
big risers? big disappointments?

@ccman68 @TheDaysOf 04

For a top 10, I'd go:

1. Cal Foote
2. Nolan Foote
3. Alex Barre-Boulet

Those would be imo our top prospects and the tier under it would be

4. Mitchell Stephens
5. Alexander Volkov
6. Taylor Raddysh
7. Sammy Walker
8. Hugo Alnefelt
9. Boris Katchouk
10. Gabriel Fortier

Stephens is a raiser to me mostly because of what he's done in only a handful of games up here in the NHL. He's showing he deserves to stick around. My other raiser is Hugo Alnefelt. He was a little hard to place. On the one hand he's played well as an 18 year old in a mens league, and he's so far shown up internationally for Sweden, so I feel like he could even be higher. But just want to see him play more games than he has so far. Also not in my top 10, but Magnus Chrona has been a pleasant surprise moving from Sweden to college hockey. He could take the biggest jump up the rankings of any prospect in our pool.

For my disappointments: Volkov couldn't grab a roster spot with the Lightning and so far his numbers are below what he's shown in the AHL the past 2 years. Raddysh is another guy who statistically is not matching up to what he did as a rookie. I hoped both would take that next step. For Masin, I don't know disappointment is the right word but his inability to crack the top 8 of our defensive depth chart is a bummer. Some of the other prospects can still develop and grow and lean on their "potential," but Masin's nhl future is questionable at best now. Lastly is Maxim Cajkovic, but that's strictly due to injury problems.

Our prospects are down right awful right now, outside the top 3, we have to be one of the worst pools in the league. Just like Days said we have a clear top 3 and a big drop off from there. It's more a top 2 then a gap to 3 then a huge one to 4. Barre-Boulet still has questions for me because I think he's top 6 or bust guy who needs a right situation to thrive and I don't know if we have that in Tampa for him.

After those three you have Stephens and Volkov simply because they made the show. Wasn't impressed with Volkov and haven't been in a while, hasn't taken the next step. Stephens is very much as expected but to me the safer of the two due to his style of play. The next five could be any mix of about ten guys simply because no one has stood out above the others, they're all either doing just enough or underperforming, no one is really exceeding expectations.

I have in no order my bottom five Cajkovic, Semykin, Crozier, Raddysh and Fortier. I left off Walker and Guttman because I can't decide who I like more. They are almost the exact same player with similar size and age, you get more goal scoring with Guttman and playmaking with Walker. I have Raddysh from the AHL group because he had a good rookie year, this year not so much, has a good frame, skillset and is a RH shot RW which is a need. Crozier because he's having a very good freshman season, he's two years younger than Perbix, he's a smooth skating RH defender, could be a Rutta type with a little more offense. The two Q forwards with Fortier he's more a safe pick, like Stephens, he will make the show because of good defensive play and hustle but the offense will keep him a bottom 6 player. Cajkovic when healthy is showing why he was a big deal when he came over. Still needs work on the other aspects of his game but speed and offensive abilities are clearly there, if he can keep developing that and work on his off the puck skills he's got an NHL future. I put Semykin in there because really there's not really any better options but he also has good numbers in his league and his highlights are nice. I don't know much about the Russian leagues, I can't read Russian so don't see the scouting reports but from the clips I've seen I think he can be an Alexei Emelin type defender if he comes over. If he can be anything close to that that's a very good defender.

I didn't put any of the goalies because I can't scout that position very well and they both need to show it over more than one season. Goalies have wild swings in consistency and this year they are up, need to see if it's the same next year when teams have a scouting report on them. In short our prospects flat out stink compared to past years. This is almost like 2010, 2011 levels where you have a couple of good prospects in Connolly and Namestnikov then a whole bunch of question marks like Panik, Gudas or Barberio with no depth behind that.

Perbix and Walker named as 2 of the top players at the Mariucci Classic. The tournament consisted of Minnesota, St. Cloud State, Bemidji State, and Minnesota State.

i think ur forgetting about solar bears tho
Here's some Solar Bears for ya (sort of)

Zach Fucale gets back to back shutouts to help Canada win the Spengler Cup.

Canada simply dominated from start to finish; it outscored its opponents 19-2 in four games, setting an all-time mark for fewest goals allowed in a single tournament.

Fucale was a big reason why. The goaltender gave up just a single goal in three starts, ended the tournament with a 151:29 shutout streak and finished with tournament-leading marks in goals-against average (0.33) and save percentage (.986). He is a remarkable 10-0-1 in three appearances at the Spengler Cup.

Nailed it couldn’t agree more. The well (in Syracuse) is dry, let’s hope the next wave creates some excitement.
