‘twas a joke because someone was telling me it was unimpressive and apparently everyone does it lol

Two blatant lies, never said anything about it being impressive or not, and I said it's not uncommon for top players, especially d-men, to play 30+ mins. It seems like what I said may have highly offended you, I'm truly sorry.

If something is “common” it is by definition “unimpressive” You silly goose.

not sure what the other “lie” was.

That may be how you interpret it, but it doesn't necessarily have to be impressive or unimpressive.

Second lie was saying I said "Everyone does it", clearly not what I said, try better reading comprehension.

Exactly what I said "not at all uncommon for top d-men to log 30+ minutes playing junior", clearly the same thing as "unimpressive, and everyone does it".

“Not at all uncommon” = common = happens all the time.

not a far stretch. Certainly not a “lie” lol so sensitive. It was a bad take and you were wrong. If anyone lied it was you. It IS uncommon. You lied. Not me.

Also it IS impressive. You’re doing things very right for the vast majority of the time if your coach is putting you out there for 35 min.

dudes a 6'4" defender taken at the top of the 2nd round playing against kids

it would be disappointing if he COULDN'T play 30 minutes a night

pretty sure his league is j20. There are plenty of players older than him. And certainly players as big as him. I never EXPECT to see anyone in any league log 35 min toi sorry.

I mean a 17 year old player on his team played 32 min on Friday. A player who's not likely to be drafted. And while looking through game logs it doesn't appear as if playing 30 min+ as a defenseman is some kind of impressive feat that happens rarely.

My only takeaways from Tuomisto's season so far are that, he's too good for the junior league and that he's making progress. Those are all good things, but nothing super impressive. But that's the kind of things we sort of expected to see anyway, since realistically he shouldn't be in the Finnish junior league.

Most of the good 18/19 year olds in Finland play in the Mestis or Liiga. So he is not playing against the best kids possible that are his age. Really too bad he couldn't have come over to the NCAA this year, not sure this season is very productive for him developmentally... but if he wanted to get an education and remain an amateur, it's where he had to play. Hard for the Wings to fight him on that I guess.

I think the decision is to his credit. The likelihood of being an NHLer isn't exactly high, and the length of an NHL career isn't terribly long. And while even the first contracts are massive compared to what the rest of us likely make every year, it's not going to be enough to live off for forty years. Go to college, get an education - or at least the majority of one - and set himself up for a life after hockey, too. That's a damn sensible thing to do.

I honestly don’t know much about finish juniors. What is keeping him from playing in the more high end finish leagues that you mentioned?

he plans on playing in the NCAA next year and playing in those other leagues would make him not eligible to do that anymore because they are professional leagues

You are right, that is the most sensible plan for Tuomisto. How long would he have to stay in college (and thus be ineligible for the Red Wings)?

I think it's four years and then he can become a UFA - though, we could still sign him. If he really lights it up at college, I bet the Wings make a hard push to sign him after his junior year, and then the kid just has to finish up one year of classes.

Right, but you can't do that in Finland?

Yeah, you kind of can, but it needs a lot more work to do than US college systems and could last year longer.

Also big thing for Tuomisto was getting adjusted in smaller-sized NHL rink. Thank can't happen in Finland.

I don't know. Finnish hockey has always been closest to North American hockey.
I'd have been just fine with him going the traditional route.
NHL or not, this kid would likely have a long Finnish career and access to education for a post-hockey career.
It's a strange path. Not ideal for his NHL development.
Hope he's ready for it.
