C over F is not drafting BPA though.

I’m saying if you consider them equal, then you always go C over a winger.

C vs D if you deem them equal would be an interesting debate. Then I think you have to make the decision based off current roster.

If a W is rated slightly higher than a C and the C is basically guaranteed to be a #1C, I would still take the C.

Like say, if I had to choose between Crosby and Ovechkin in their draft year, I would take Crosby even if Ovi was rated slightly higher.

You could of just stuck with what actually happened in Ovi over Malkin.

But would you of taken Malkin instead?

If you ignore that there was a sizable diifference in the two when it came to who was the consensus #1 in their draft year, yeah, I would have.

Saad-Toews-Kahun
Panarin-Strome-Kane
Debrincat-Caiggula-Sikura
Perlini-Kampf-Hayden
Martinsen

Jokiharju-Keith
Gus-Murphy
Forsling-Dahlstrom
Seabrook

Smith/Delia...Crawford

Panarin is an obvious fit with Kane
Smith would be a good mentor to help Delia transition into being a #1 goalie

Boqvist, Beaudin, Mitchell and our first round picks in 2019 can knock on the door too.

I’d almost rather use the Pittsburgh model and swap DeBrincat and Panarin.

Panarin and Kane can both drive their own lines and don’t need each other to produce 80+ points. Plus Panarin’s game gets too simple and he slacks defensively when with Kane.

I don't know what the cap space is but I wouldn't be against getting aggressive by moving Saad & Arty at the deadline to free up impact making cap space. Imagine if a miracle happened and something could be done with Seabs then focus on top offensive talent, and who knows what could happen with how Delia has looked.

The way I see it we're developing Strome/Cat right now. The D is turning a huge corner with Murphy/Dahlstrom taking on top competition along with Gus's game coming around & you have Joker continue to develop then Keith & the pipeline. And, you look at your depth offense as Kahun, Cagguila, Kampf, and hope Barratt can come in and be a real 3C.

If you want to complete the roster going into 2019/20 IMO you sign the best winger(s) available for the top lines, like what we did to go out & get Campbell then later Hossa. That top talent injection just tipped the balance for that team and you can only rely on development/kids to a certain extent. Sure, might have future cap implications but we've really no choice in the matter.

for me, while many posters have posted the idea of getting the like of Pan and other FA to help the team, i say no. the reason is, with 2 possible contracts that may not move, the team should look at a FA who the org will consider as a tier 2 offensive FA's and defensive top defense man.

There will be no top defenseman available in free agency though. Even if you wanted to splurge and take the risk on Karlsson, it looks like he’s interested in negotiating with San Jose.

Pass on EK. Bet on kids in pipeline and address need at forward. We need Panarin or Stone badly. Hopefully add another in draft that can play next year (probably requires top 5 pick). Maybe trade for another top 9 guy from a team in cap crunch like others suggested with J.T Miller.

while you make a good point, the team needs to address the hole on the defensive side..... those kids need time to continue to develop. hence my idea of acquiring a defense man to help the timeline.

There’s nobody to acquire though. Who are you going to get that is significantly better than what we have?

It’s all going to be a bunch of 2nd and 3rd pairing guys available, outside of Karlsson.

Agreed. What about Edler? He’s a UFA. Maybe could get him on a 3 year deal to bridge the gap.

you got me there. i am not update on whom to get. my slow mind can not work that fast.

Outside of Karlsson and Gardiner, he’s the only other free agent that sticks out. Good all around D-man, good on the PP, physical, blocks a lot of shots. Also a LHD. Will be 33 in April so maybe 2 or 3 years gets it done.

But yeah, if we are going to try to start winning next year, I agree we need to make a trade or sign a veteran D-man.

a 2 yr deal will be idea or trade ...... this team needs a stop gap temp experience d-men to help ease the young studs coming up.

They already have that in Keith and even Seabrook.

Hell, I’d argue Murphy almost fits that description as well.

I’d rather have Keith and Murphy getting time than Edler.
