Clague has had a bad tournament. No other way to dress that up at this point He's being relied upon as the big minute guy but he isn't delivering.

Wonder how the rest of his season will shake out. Hope his confidence isn't shattered but I could easily see him spinning off from here.

they were abusing the kid from what i saw

i don't have the stats in front of me but wasn't he pushing 30min/night in most games?

Trade him.

Isn’t Clague an offensive dman basically playing shut down paired with Makar?

I don’t know, haven’t seen a game. Asking seriously.

Clague is playing injured similar to Fabbro. Was questionable early on with an ankle injury that is no doubt affecting his play. Not sure why the two are getting such heavy usage and CAN refuses to play Makar more. Not remotely stressed about Clague and a reason going in he was their #1 and coaches continue to use him as such. Guy is a legit prospect. Also please go back and look at the past WJC cup award winners for best F/D/G yet alone 1st/2nd teams. People love to fixate on WJC play, but in the grand scheme holds little value.

Nice first period by both Clague and Moverare. Clague has a real nice outlet pass, hard and accurate. He seemed to struggle a bit when under a heavy forecheck though, threw the puck away a bit too recklessly. Moverare had a strong semi finals and seems to be continuing that play in the finals. He seems to have simplified his game a bit and it´s working for him.

Clague did have a really nice game for Canada. Made many great plays, defended well, and you can see there is some upside in his game. He may not have got on the scoreboard in a significant way but he always seem to be in the right place at the right time.

Saying that neither he or any player on that ice tonight is anywhere close to being NHL ready.

In Clague I'm hoping to see Thomas Hickey type with a hair more upside.

I thought Clague looked great when he had room and not so great when pressured. Other d-men were perhaps flashier but Clague could make a really hard and accurate outlet pass or skate the puck up the ice himself. He looked very mobile, plays with his head up and definitely seems like a potential NHLer if he can learn to keep his head cool in pressure situations. I´m not surprised he got the icetime he got, he could play in all situations.

It´s hard to see an NHL future for Moverare based on what I saw this tourney though. His skillset is just so limited and I don´t think his strengths will outweigh his shortcomings. But I´ve been wrong before, projecting futures based off a handful of games is not really a fair thing to do.
