2018 World Junior tourney in the US

I will go with a 99% chance. I doubt Tampa gets it. It will be a Northern US city that should receive a good influx of Canadians that will buy the tickets. Pittsburgh, PA makes sense for that reason.

But how many Canadians live in Florida? When I watch games in Tampa against the Leafs and Habs, the arena is packed with jerseys of the road team.

selling a hockey tournament to Canadians is not good marketing, it's a marketing executive's wet dream. a job so easy even you would be able to do it. :handclap:

I was being sarcastic

Didn't you hear though, they hired me to do the marketing, I'm expecting big numbers this year! *hopes Canadians make their way down*

sure, take the easy way out. Then in that case, USAH shares 30% of whatever profit they make with Hockey Canada.

The easy way out?

Hosting a tournament that nobody shows up to isn't a good way to get other fans interested in it. It makes the tournament look amateur.

Montreal didn't sell out in 78. Hamilton didn't sell out in 86 (my first BTW) 91 didn't sell out (except for the gold clinching game.. a thriller BTW)

what it took was some success and a T.V. network dedicated to making it into a holiday event.

If you think selling tournament inventory to Canadians is the best way to grow the tournament in the U.S., then I disagree...and yes, in my view, it's the easy way out.

I am curious, I've never had the opportunity to watch this tournament in the States, as I'm always home for the holidays...but which network broadcasts it in the U.S. and is it a U.S. production or do they just go with the Canadian feed?

The nhl network broadcasts it. It's only been on for the last five years or so. They have their own analysts for USA games, but the rest they just use the tsn feed.

American PBP guy with sidekick or just the TSN feed with separate intermission hosts/analysts?

American PBP with an American colour man. Their intermissions are American, too. Though, IIRC, it was just the two announcers discussing the game. It's the dude with those glasses (like that helps but still LOL)

In my opinion, it was painful to watch

Last year it was Steve Mears and Dave Starman doing the game commentary. Mears is an up and coming play by play guy, but Starman has been in and around USA Hockey and NCAA hockey for years.

I think they did their own intermission reports as well, but I never watch those anyway.

What? Don't watch intermission? But according to the "geniuses" on HF and judging by their hysterics and hissy fits over Rogers broadcasts, the talking heads are the best part...I mean how else are we to glean any insights as to what is going on out there.

In all seriousness, smart move.:handclap:

Hah!

Even if they did say something interesting, it's buttressed by so many commercials.

Grand Forks? announcement pending.

U18 tournament in the U.S. would be the 1st time outside of Europe for this I believe. Good.

The US hosted the U18s back in 2009. It was in Fargo, North Dakota. I guess they figure the tournament would get lost in the shuffle in any of the larger hockey markets in the US at that time of year.
